MUNCIE – Emory L. Starks, 85, passed away on Sunday afternoon, February 8, 2026 at his home.

He was born on June 10, 1940 in Portland, IN, the son of Erwin John and Jessie D. (Miller) Starks and graduated from Muncie Central High School.

Emory worked for the Muncie Fire Department from March 1, 1972 to August 14, 2004, retiring as a Lieutenant Inspector.

He was an avid bowler, enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved all animals. Emory deeply loved his family and spending time with them.

Surviving are three children, Scott Starks (wife, Gena) of Pendleton, Lora Hildreth (husband, Charlie) of Gaston and Mike Starks (wife, Robin) of Middletown; seven grandchildren, Holly Scott, Kellie Rowell (husband, Stephen), Jessica Loos (husband, Adam), Betsy Craver (husband, Dylan) Grant Starks, Jordan Starks (wife, Allison) and Peyton Starks; ten great-grandchildren, Kinley, Allie, Melania, Charlie, RosaLee, Dominic, Reagan, Hunter, Zane and Drake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Imogene A. Starks; and one sister, Barbara Hiatt.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow services at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026 or one hour prior to services on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to A.R.F. (Animal Rescue Fund), 1209 W. Riggin Road, Muncie, IN, 47303 or https://munciearf.com.
