Phillip Haney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Meeks Mortuary & Crematory - Washington Street Chapel on Feb. 13, 2026.
Phillip Gregory "Greg" Haney, 67, passed away on February 10, 2026, in Muncie, Indiana, following a cardiac event.

Born on July 5, 1958, in Pensacola, Florida, Greg was the oldest son of Phil and Luran Haney. He graduated from Wapahani High School in 1976 and later attended Ivy Tech Community College. He dedicated many years of service to General Motors before retiring. Never one to slow down, Greg continued serving his community in retirement with the Town of Selma and at Cardinal Hills Golf Course.

If you ever met Greg, chances are you still remember his smile. It was constant, genuine, and usually accompanied by a warm handshake or an even warmer hug. He truly never met a stranger. Greg had a gift for making people feel welcome and important. With his outgoing personality and self-deprecating humor, he put others at ease and often put their needs ahead of his own. Being around him simply made life lighter and more joyful.

Music was one of the great loves of Greg's life. An accomplished drummer, he proudly marched with the Wapahani High School "Imperial Raiders," performing in the Indianapolis 500 Parade and helping earn a State Fair title in 1975. He later toured Europe with the American Musical Ambassadors and played in local bands including Bitterroot & The 5 Speeds. Whether on a field, a stage, or behind a drum kit, Greg brought energy, pride, and heart to every performance.

Athletic and competitive in his younger years, Greg played baseball, softball, and wrestled. In later years, he found joy on the golf course and outdoors, especially working on landscaping projects. Some of his greatest happiness, however, came from being present for his grandchildren. He rarely missed a game, performance, or special event, cheering them on with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything he loved. He was also a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, celebrating victories and enduring losses with equal passion.

Above all, Greg will be remembered for how he loved - big, openly, and without hesitation. He created connections wherever he went and leaves behind a legacy of laughter, music, and unwavering support.

Greg is survived by a brother, Bradley Jay Haney (Jennifer); son, Phillip Jason Haney (Stephanie) and daughter, Kimberly Brooke Johnson (Caleb Nunez); grandchildren, Drew, Mya, Caydence, and Gio; longtime companion, Jane; an uncle, Hal Haney; aunts Lorraine Davis and Sherry Enterkin; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Jay Haney and Luran Enterkin, and his younger brother, Robert Earl Haney.

Greg's rhythm, laughter, and generous heart will continue to echo in the lives of all who were lucky enough to know and love him.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel
