Christopher Mark Sakla, a man whose optimism and joy inspired all who knew him, was born on March 30, 1982, in Des Plaines, Illinois, and passed away on October 20, 2023, in Orange, California. Chris, as he was affectionately known, was a beacon of light, illuminating the lives of those around him with his infectious laughter, his heartfelt compliments, and his unyielding love. His memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him.
Chris grew up in Naperville, Illinois, where he attended and graduated from Neuqua Valley High School. From there, he embarked on a journey west, trading the familiarity of the Midwest for the golden sunshine of California. It was on this journey that Chris would truly come into his own, further developing his vibrant personality and zest for life.
From a young age, Chris was deeply rooted in his Coptic faith. His commitment to his spiritual path was evident when, as a young boy, he met the Pope from Egypt and was made a Deacon along with his father. This profound experience served as a guiding light throughout his life, illuminating his path and influencing the man he would become.
Chris had a penchant for celebration – a trait that served him well in his exceptional talent for wedding planning. He had an uncanny ability to remember names, birthdays, anniversaries, and even phone numbers, a testament to his genuine interest in people. He was a social magnet, effortlessly drawing others into conversation and making everyone feel seen and appreciated.
Music and dance were the rhythm of Chris's life, his laughter was the melody, and his kindness was the harmony that tied it all together. He was a lover of life's simple pleasures, like watching movies, dining out, and indulging in a slice of chocolate cake. Each of these activities was not merely a pastime for Chris, but an opportunity to connect with others and spread joy.
Chris is survived by his father, Gamil Sakla; his brother, Steven and his wife Elisabeth Sakla; his sister, Dalia and her husband Nader Gourgy; his nephews, Lucas Rizkalla and Remy Sakla; and his nieces, Liana Rizkalla and Lauren Sakla; niece and nephews, Gabrielle, Alex and Zachary Gourgy. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Sakla.
In each of these relationships, Chris's love was evident. His bond with his family was unshakeable, and his love for them was as vast as the ocean. He was not only a beloved son, brother, and uncle but also a cherished friend to many. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him.
Christopher Mark Sakla lived his life with an infectious enthusiasm, a boundless love for others, and a spirit that was nothing short of inspiring. He was a testament to the power of positivity, a living embodiment of joy, and a reminder to us all to live each day with a heart full of love and a soul full of laughter. His life was a beautiful dance, a song of love and joy that will continue to play in the hearts of those he touched.
While we mourn the loss of such a beautiful soul, let us also celebrate the life he lived and the love he shared. May his memory serve as a beacon of light, guiding us to live our lives with the same optimism, love, and humor that were the hallmarks of his existence.
In the words of a motivational speaker, "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." Christopher Mark Sakla, you took our breath away. Your spirit will forever dance in our hearts.
