Christopher was a very outdoor, spiritual person. He loved hiking, fishing, and anything to do with being outside. The first camping trip of the year was during spring break – even if it was snowing!
He lived his life, giving all his love to his kids, wife Jennifer Lynn Cartwright-Schaffert, and his mother Sheral Hads. Family was first – always. Chris and Jennifer had 5 kids over a few years span starting with Tristen Rodney Craig Schaffert, Michael Eugene Todd Schaffert, Jillian Alexis Lynn Schaffert, Luana Opal Elizabeth Schaffert, and finally Star Ann Patrice Schaffert. He always made sure his children grew up with respect for not only people, but mother nature itself. They grew up wearing no shoes inside and out, enjoying every bit of our planet. Birthdays were often spent camping and hiking with just Dad. Daughter, Star remembers one particular birthday when they spent the entire night sitting by the fire talking and watching the stars. Son, Michael shares that his father wanted him to have a better life than he had.
Despite many ups and downs during their 30 years together, Chris made sure that Jennifer always knew how much he loved her. And, that he wanted nothing more than to watch their children grow and have children of their own.
Chris had a huge heart. He looked for opportunities to help others. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone that needed it.
Chris loved growing plants and was a big pot smoker. He enjoyed growing pot, and smoking. While he would be growing, he'd smoke with his plants and play music and sing to them. He called his garden "church" which he spent most days in, tending to the plants.
Everything Chris did was for his kids and for his wife and mother. He strived to make himself better for his wife and kids. He fell into drugs more than once and stopped, but it always ended up winning the battle.
He will be dearly missed and forever loved by a huge amount of people from all over the country. Not only did he have blood family, he had a huge, adopted family he formed bonds with over the years.
A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Danekas Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Please look on the Danekas website for additional information.
