Christopher Sheets Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Valley Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Roanoke on Jan. 15, 2025.
Christopher Eugene Sheets
He was born on November 17, 1958, in Moline, Illinois to his parents, Curtis Eugene and Frances Armetta Sheets, and returned to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 10, 2025, after a valiant fight with cancer. Chris and his family relocated to Charleston, WV. After graduating from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1977, he entered the U.S. Army and served 3 years of active duty in Germany. Upon his discharge, he returned to Charleston, WV, and later moved to Roanoke Valley where he worked for Kroger at Ridgewood Farms. He obtained an AAS degree from VWCC in business and real estate while serving in the Virginia Army National Guard, 1-116th from which he later retired after 20 years of service. He worked in real estate sales while he studied for the position of a US Postal Letter Carrier. Chris went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years in both Roanoke County and Roanoke City. It was his favorite occupation; he met and made many friends throughout the community as a letter carrier. Chris was a cat lover – he had many cats over the years, and some were even adopted from his mail routes. He was a member of St Andrews Catholic Church and Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. Chris served the Knights of Columbus #562 for many years in Bingo, KOVAR, and Basketball Tournaments and was House Rental Chairman. He was also an avid golfer and pool player. Chris had a lifelong love for reading and enjoyed science fiction immensely. He is survived by his partner Victoria Chewning, of Salem VA.
He is also survived by brothers, Curtis (Pat) of Rocky Mount, VA, Craig (Rebecca) of Jacksonville, FL, Michael (Tracey) of Vinton, VA, and Carl Sheets of Salem, VA. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Karen Peters, and survived by 2 sisters, Mary Sacco (Frank) of Teays Valley, WV, and Michelle Holley (Herbert) of Sissonville, WV, and by a large contingent of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews along with many dear friends including Jennifer Sheets of Roanoke, VA. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church on January 23rd at 10:30 am with interment following at St. Andrews Diocesan Catholic Cemetery. Special thanks to all his many caregivers during his illness and to the Good Samaritan Hospice House for the care he received in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church, 2505 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018, or The American Cancer Society Relay For Life, relayforlife.org/vablueridge.

Chris was such a true 'warrior' in his fight against cancer. He walked with us the last three years at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Virginia's Blue Ridge. Today we made a donation in his memory to Relay. Pete & Carolyn Campbell.

I didn´t know Chris that long but enjoy playing golf with him. Found him to be caring of other peoples feelings and a nice man. Rest in peace Chris.
