Mr. Christopher Lee Sykes, age 57, of Dobson, passed away Friday, February 6, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 21, 1968, in Surry County to the late Paul Allen Sykes and the late Dora Marie Wright Sykes. Mr. Sykes was born in Mount Airy but was raised in the Beulah/Prison Camp Community. He was of the Baptist faith and served his community as both a Pastor and Sunday School Teacher. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army as a light engineer. He also worked as a machinist for Tyco in Greensboro, and as a truck driver. His hobbies included weaving, fishing and carpentry. But most importantly, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife, Sandra Mooney Sykes; his son, Jacob Paul Sykes, and his fiancé, Heather Fain; daughter Joy Noelle Sykes; stepsons, Christopher Adam Dalton (Eva), and Ryan Levi Dalton; grandchildren, Jaysic Gunter, Jaythan Gunter, Jayden Gunter, Scarlett Ivy Joyce, Ginny Mae Dalton; his brother and sister-in-law, Michael Allen and Annette Sykes; a nephew, Brandon Sykes; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunts, Una Sykes, Fern Key (Jim), Ginger Bode (Frank), Betty Lou Moore (Eugene), Mary Sue Smith (Leonard),Amelda Privette, and Cena Holder; and his uncles Ted Sykes (Joyce), and Clinton Sykes.
A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Little Richmond Baptist Church with Rev. Nolan Bentley and Rev. James Stuller officiating Military Rites will follow with Veterans of Foreign Wars Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will gather in the fellowship hall following the service, and everyone is welcome, per Chris’s request, to bring a covered dish as the family will continue to have fellowship and remember Chris’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 325, Dobson NC 27017, The GBI Radio Ministry, PO Box 797, Dobson NC, or to the MSA Foundation, Mission MSA540 N.
