Mr. Chris "Hippy" Thomas, age 49, of Franklin, KY, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 3:02 PM at the University of Louisville/Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will continue on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 804 Church Street, in Franklin, KY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12th at 2:00 PM at the church with interment to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Hippy was born on January 31, 1976 in Bowling Green, KY to Punkin and Paulette (Cherry) Thomas, who survives and lives in Franklin, KY. Along with being survived by his parents, he is also survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Ama Thomas; two sons, Zack Thomas (Kirby) of Franklin, KY and Rylan Thomas (Kenlee) of Franklin, KY: three grandchildren, Hunter Thomas, Colter Thomas and Greer Thomas; two sisters, DeAnn Moyers (Bill, Jr.) of Franklin, KY and Paula Thomas Gore of Franklin, KY; and 2 nieces, Megan Brady and Morgan Moyers Riddle.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Crue Thomas; maternal grandparents, Paul and Frances Cherry; paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Thomas; and nephew, Hunter Gore.
Hippy was a 1995 graduate of Franklin-Simpson High School. He was an employee of Greif Manufacturing for 26 years. Hippy enjoyed coaching youth baseball and football for many years. Enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. He was an avid Franklin-Simpson sports supporter. Hippy was a die hard San Francisco 49ers fan.
Hippy was known for his contagious personality. He could make friends with anyone and everyone wanted to be friends with Hippy. He was notorious for giving people nicknames that would stick with you for life!
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the F-S Quarterback Club, 400 South College St., Franklin, KY 42134 attn: Emily Satterly or the F-S Baseball Boosters, P.O. Box 527, Franklin, KY 42135-0527. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
