Chrystyne Hoyer Curry

Chrystyne "Chrys" Hoyer Curry passed away on February 22, 2026, at Tidal Health Medical Center in Salisbury, MD. Her cause of death was cardiac failure. She was surrounded by love as she peacefully passed away.

Chrys was born on August 8, 1945, in Great Bend, Kansas. Her parents were Herbert William Hoyer, and her mother was Catherine MacKenzie. She was predeceased by her brother, Hubert Hoyer.

Chrys's formative years were spent in Falls Church, VA. After graduating from West Virginia University, Chrys followed her Naval Aviator husband to San Diego, CA. Having earned an MFT from Chapman University, she became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the County of San Diego, where she enjoyed a productive career.

Chrys is survived by her children, Renee LaChat (Dave Hunter) of Truckee, CA, and Matthew LaChat of Los Angeles, CA, as well as her beloved partner, Steven Habeger of Ocean Pines, MD.

Chrys was a fiercely independent and strong woman. She enjoyed parties with friends and traveling the world, often by herself. Chrys had powerful intellectual curiosity, as evidenced by her many travels, becoming a licensed glider pilot, and the many marathons and half-marathons she walked. Her passion was traveling and learning. She has visited all 7 continents. She saw the ruins in Machu Pichu, the penguins at Antarctica, the aurora above the Arctic Circle, the blue-footed booby in the Galapagos, the hall of mirrors at Versailles, she hiked the Great Wall of China and stood next to the pyramids in Egypt. She was an avid reader and gardener. She was an excellent "plant mama". She loved family and friends with passion and devotion.

A Celebration of Life will be held in San Diego at a future date.

Her internment will be private.
