Chuck Evitch

Charles Wayne Evitch, 80, passed away on August 23, 2024 after a long struggle with diabetes.
Chuck was born in Rice Lake, WI to Charles F. and Lillian (Robotka) Evitch. The second of four boys, Chuck was a star wrestler for the Birchwood Bobcats and graduated in 1961. He then went to work as a backhoe operator burying phone lines for Michels, a job that took him on the road every week.
Chuck married Janet Denison in 1970 and they eventually settled on a small, 40 acre farm in Birchwood. They had 4 children in the '70s and as the family grew, Chuck wanted to be closer to home. He left Michels and purchased a local business with his brother Arnie. A & C Auto and Marine offered auto body work and repair in addition to selling used vehicles, outboard motors (and rental), chainsaws and tow service.
In the early '90s, the business was transformed into a gas station and convenience store, A & C Auto Mart. They continued to offer garage services and sell used vehicles and added a bait shop and car wash among other things. After 30 years of marriage, Chuck and Janet divorced, the business was sold and he began mowing fairways at Tagalong and building houses part time before starting "Chuck's Seasonal Services." He provided lawn care spring-fall and plowed snow in the winter.
Chuck loved to golf in the '80s and '90s and was on the Tagalong men's league. He won several trophies and really enjoyed socializing with the guys. Perhaps his golf career highlight was finishing first in the A Flight of the regular season. He enjoyed going to Clearwater, FL in the winter to golf with his buddies.
Chuck was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and trap. He would travel to Press Lake in Ontario with friends and was thrilled to have gotten a moose.
Chuck was proud to be from Birchwood, from the great state of Wisconsin and 100% Czech (Bohunk). He adored watching the Brewers, Packers and Badgers. Just as faithfully, he watched a weekly show featuring polka music and dancing. He loved his coffee clutch time at the Cafe and enjoyed taking drives, particularly to Prebram where his ancestors settled southeast of town in Wilson.
Chuck loved his family and was a jovial, honest, hardworking, responsible, loyal and kind man. He gave this world his best shot and was loved right back. He will be missed and the memories he left cherished.
Chuck will be cremated and laid to rest at the foot of his dad at Woodlawn Cemetery in Birchwood. His children will host a gathering to celebrate the life of their Pop in June 2025.
He is survived by his children Sarah, Charles R. and Katie Evitch, Sally (Ken) Burrows, grandchildren Tanner, Tessa and Bode, brother Jack (Irene) Evitch, dog Gabby and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lillian Evitch and brothers Robert and Arnold Evitch.
