Chung Ryan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMillan-Small Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 5, 2026.
Chung Cha Ryan of Myrtle Beach, SC departed this world for Heaven on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

A native of South Korea, Mrs. Ryan emigrated to the United States in 1970. At various times she lived near Chicago, Washington DC and Hilton Head Island, SC before settling in Myrtle Beach in 2019. Among her occupations, she owned and operated a gift shop in Washington, DC for several years. March 3 is a date of great importance to Mrs. Ryan. She was born on this day in 1934 in a country then occupied by Japan until 1945. In 1975, on her 41st birthday, she took the oath and became a U.S. citizen in the morning, and married Major General Ward S. Ryan, USA (Ret.) in the afternoon. This date of many memories now also marks her passing at age 92. Her birthday was celebrated by the staff at Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach who sang Happy Birthday for her moments before she passed away. Known to family and friends for her sense of humor and generosity, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be alongside her late husband, General Ryan, at Arlington National Cemetery in the near future.
