Cindy Wilberding

Cindy (Huff) Wilberding, 68, of Cherokee, Iowa passed from this life to the next on August 15, 2025. A devoted and beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Cindy leaves behind a legacy of wisdom and kindness that touched the lives of everyone she knew.

Cindy was born in Cherokee, Iowa on February 11, 1957, the youngest child of Roy and Dorothy Huff. Cindy joined siblings Terry, Linda, Tom and Bill.

At an early age, Cindy developed an innate sense of accomplishment through hard work and dedication. She graduated from Washington High School in 1975. In the 1990's, she continued her education at WIT and Westmar College with a major in Human Services and minor in Criminal Justice and Psychology. Later, she graduated from Drake University with a master's degree in Adult Education and Training.

Her devotion to helping people was evident all her employment years. She was a GED teacher, helping adults obtain their high school diplomas. She worked as a lab assistant in the dental office of Dr. Kahler in Le Mars. After moving back to Cherokee in 2011, Cindy excelled as a real estate associate broker, a partner of Exit Realty team.

Cindy cherished her 49 years of marriage and life with Dave Wilberding. They were a perfectly balanced team and together raised two wonderful sons who will forever carry her spirit and be her living legacy. Family was important to Cindy and brought immense joy to her life.

Volunteering to make Cherokee the best was Cindy's passion. She was instrumental in creating the Cherokee Skatepark. Love of music made her a natural as a Board member for Kee Live Music Festival. Her leadership skills made lasting contributions to our beautiful city. In 2022, she was awarded "Citizen of the Year".

Favorite hobbies of Cindy were listening & dancing to '70's music. She was a member of the Crochet Club and made hundreds of hats for newborns and other children. She was a member of the Book Club and always read the book! She had so much fun with her Birthday Club friends. She loved to spoil her fur baby, Keah. Cindy was a landlord and kept her properties in pristine condition. Together, in 2011, Cindy and Dave built their dream home on the southern edge of Cherokee.

Cindy's authenticity, generosity, and gentle spirit allowed her to make connections easily, casting a wide range of friends from many walks of life. She had a knack for turning acquaintances into friends. Our smart, beautiful friend Cindy will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Dave; dearly loved sons, Justin (wife Emily) of Joplin, MO; Jordan of Cherokee. Four grandchildren, Isabelle, Bennett, and Isla of Joplin, MO; grandson Finn of Cherokee. Siblings Linda and spouse Ken, Bill and spouse Diane. And numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

She is preceded by her parents and brother's Terry Huff and Tom Huff.

Following Cindy's wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Hospital for medical research, a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning.

A celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring, in conjunction with the Skate Park competition.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cherokee Skate Park, a project Cindy held close to her heart.
