Claire Louise Del Vecchio

Claire Louise Del Vecchio, 98, peacefully entered eternal rest in the comfort of her beloved home, surrounded by the loving embrace of her family on August 26, 2025.

Born on August 14, 1927, in Mount Vernon, NY, to proud Italian parents, Claire's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, devotion, and unwavering strength. She blossomed in the vibrant neighborhoods of the Bronx, where destiny led her to the love of her life, Alfred Del Vecchio. Their hearts united in marriage on June 20, 1945, beginning a remarkable 73-year journey of love and partnership.

Together, Claire and Alfred lovingly nurtured and raised eight precious children, their growing family moving from one apartment to another with joy and determination until they found their forever home in White Plains, NY in 1957. This cherished home became the heart of countless family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and precious memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Though her heart was deeply saddened by the loss of her treasured husband Alfred in 2018 and her beloved eldest son Peter in 2014, Claire's indomitable spirit and boundless love continued to shine brightly for her family.

Claire's legacy of love lives on through her devoted children: Mary Louise Turner, Alfred Vincent, Claire Orlando, Joanne DeLanoy, Ellen DelVecchio-Lee, Lisa Lopilato, and John Michael. Her nurturing spirit expanded to embrace 17 cherished grandchildren and 18 precious great-grandchildren, each one a testament to her extraordinary capacity for love. She was preceded in death by her dear brothers, Michael Masucci and Vincent Masucci.

In Claire's younger years, she was involved in many community activities, serving on many boards including United Way, Keep White Plains Clean, White Plains Hospital Medical Center and served as Chairman of Benefit for Child Abuse Center and Mother's March of Dimes. She established a Finger Printing Program for Children in the City of White Plains. She was also involved with the Woman's Club, serving as co-chairman of the Civic Section, Liaison to White Plains Common Council and Co-chaired their Art Show. She was the Issue Editor of their Club Dial Magazine. She was an avid reader, loved to cook and loved creative writing. Even at the ripe young age of 98, she knew just about all the answers on Jeopardy and the Wheel of Fortune. She had a deep love for learning but her selfless priority was raising eight children. She waited patiently and in her 60's she enrolled in college. After 4 years she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities.

Claire was known for her love for children, her kindness, strength and witty sense of humor. She opened her home and her heart to everyone, making strangers feel like family within minutes of crossing her threshold. She carried herself with a humanity that made others feel valued and important.

Her love for her husband Al was a beautiful testament to what true partnership looks like-deep, enduring, and built on a foundation of mutual respect and genuine friendship that sustained them through decades together.

Now she has been reunited with her beloved Al, who has been patiently waiting to welcome her home with the same gentle smile that first captured her heart all those years ago.
