Clara Irene Riddle
July 16, 1919 - February 19, 2025
Clara Irene Riddle, age 105, of Gahanna, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025. Born on July 16, 1919, in Kingston, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Floyd H. Hitchens and Clara M. Hitchens. Clara was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, whose resilience and strength throughout her life were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Clara married Donald Riddle on February 14, 1947, and together they raised two sons, Charles (Onita) and David, who preceded her in death. Clara's grandchildren, Marlon (Brandi) Riddle and Aja Riddle, were a constant source of joy in her life. Later in life she gained three great-granddaughters Jazmine, Jordan, and Brooklyn who she grew to know and influence with the story of her life. She is also survived by her sister Marilyn, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Eleanor, Bernice, Dolores, Glenna, Barbara, and Connie, and her brother Floyd.
Clara's life was one of determination, perseverance, and overcoming obstacles. Throughout her 105 years, she faced many challenges and limitations but always met them with strength and grace. Whether through personal loss, adversity, or the changing tides of time, Clara's unwavering resolve and optimism carried her through. She never allowed life's hardships to define her, instead choosing to live fully and embrace the opportunities before her.
Clara was passionate about travel and the exploration of different cultures, and she made it a priority to experience the world beyond her own backyard. She was also deeply involved in the arts, attending plays, concerts, and cultural events throughout her life, enriching her soul and expanding her perspective.
In addition to her love for the arts, Clara had a talent for sewing and typing, using these skills to create opportunities both home and abroad. Her hands were always busy crafting meaningful gifts, and she was a source of support and inspiration to those around her.
Her deep faith was an essential part of her life, and Clara was an active member of Bethany Presbyterian Church for 75 years, where she contributed much of her time and energy. She served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee, and deacon, finding purpose in helping others and strengthening her bonds with her church community.
Though Clara faced life's limitations, she never let them hold her back. Her legacy is one of perseverance, love, and an unwavering belief in the power of family, faith, and community. She will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, and strength through all of life's challenges.
