Clara Stevens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home - Warrensburg on Mar. 9, 2026.
Our beloved mother, Clara Reece Stevens, age 78 of Warrensburg, MO, went home to be with the Lord on February 28, 2026, while in her home surrounded by her family. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, First Lady, a sister and a friend.
Clara was born in Mayview, MO, on March 12, 1947 to Robert and Helen Talbert. She attended school in Mayview, from elementary to high school graduation.
Clara married the love of her life, Harry Stevens, June 17, 1967, in Mayview, where they began a life long journey together. To this union four children was born, Stephanie Elizabeth, Sidrid Marie, Harry Dale Jr. and Phillip Ray. Clara settled in as stay-at-home mom early in her marriage. Caring for her family was her number one priority and she did it with grace and poise.

In March 1977, her husband accepted the call to Pastorialship, as this birthed Clara's new journey to lead now a second family, the family of Victory Tabernacle church. Serving in several offices until the church grew. She was committed to ensuring the growth of the ministry, teaching Sunday School, singing in the music ministry, playing the piano, planning and cooking church dinners, and serving in the women's ministry. She had a true servants heart and her passion didn't stop there. She was a teacher in the community daycare center, a seamstress for a local dry-cleaning service, enjoyed creating and sewing products for other local businesses. She also took pride in making clothes for her family.
She enjoyed reupholstering furniture, decorating, scrapbooking, and gardening. Even after suffering a stroke, she did not allow that to stop her, she was dedicated to serving until she was physically unable. Clara led a committed life to Christ, as well as a loving wife and mother. She will be greatly missed, forever cherished and remembered.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Talbert, four siblings, John Talbert, Estell Williams, Irene Miller, Robert George Talbert, and one son Phillip Ray Stevens.

She leaves to cherish, her loving companion of 59 years, Harry Stevens Sr., two daughters; Stephanie Hardy (widowed), Sidrid Butler (Anthony), one son, Harry Stevens, Jr. (Michelle), 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, godson, Aimero Uriel II, nephews, nieces, and a host of family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg, Missouri, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will then take place at 12:00 p.m. with Bishop Daniel Chavis Jr. officiating. A graveside service will follow the funeral service at the Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Victory Tabernacle Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.
