Clare F. Sebok, 69, died on Wednesday March 4, 2026 after a long and bravely fought battle with cancer. She was born in
Trenton, NJ where she lived before moving with her parents to
Lawrenceville, NJ. Clare attended Notre Dame High School in
Lawrenceville, NJ, and graduated from Rider College, also in
Lawrenceville, NJ, in 1978, with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, Clare taught English at Marcus W. Newcomb Middle School in
Pemberton, NJ for several years. Having a thirst for knowledge and enjoying the world of academia, Clare earned a master's degree in Library Science and worked toward a master's degree in Theology from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA, which was interrupted by eldercare. She married her soulmate, Dr. William L. Sebok, on June 26, 1988, in a beautiful ceremony at the Princeton University Chapel in Princeton, NJ, after which they moved to Maryland. Prior to caring for her parents and aunt, Clare had been a research librarian at Goucher College in
Towson, MD, Carroll Community College in
Westminster, MD., University of Maryland and Howard Community College.
Clare loved animals, having raised dogs, cats, and ferrets. She thoroughly enjoyed being out in nature and walking in gardens, and completed the course of study to become a Maryland Master Naturalist. She loved birdwatching and spotting ospreys, easily recognized a variety of birdcalls, and learned to identify various species of butterflies and other insects.
Clare was a devout Catholic and attended Mass regularly. During her illness, when she could no longer attend church in person, she attended via livestream. Her strong faith certainly provided comfort and strength in her fight against cancer.
Clare was a devoted daughter and niece, having spent many years selflessly giving of herself to care for her elderly parents and her Aunt Terri. She then continued caring for her beloved husband when he took sick until his passing in 2022.
Daughter of the late John S. and Marion W. Flesch, niece of the late Laura Ford and Theresa Flesch, and wife of the late Dr. William L. Sebok, Clare cherished all of her relatives and her late husband's family and valued the many friendships she forged during her lifetime.
