Clarence Paul Loy (March 16, 1948 – August 15, 2025)
Clarence Loy, age 77, of Riverside, California, passed away peacefully of natural causes on
August 15, 2025. Known lovingly as "Pap Pap," Clarence was a generous soul who never
hesitated to lend a helping hand.
Born in Steubenville, Ohio, in 1948 to Wanita (Sines) Loy and Victor Loy, Clarence was the
middle of five siblings and proudly referred to himself as a "Damn Rebel" from birth. After
graduating high school, he served four years in the United States Army.
Clarence met his wife, MaryAnn, when she was a junior EMT and he was driving an
ambulance. After a spirited debate about "women's roles on the ambulance," Clarence
admired MaryAnn's tenacity and asked her out. They married on April 8, 1978, and moved
from Ohio to California in 1983.
Clarence worked at a chemical plant for 18 years, but his greatest joy came from spending
time with his daughters, Gillian and Christina. He especially loved biking with them along
the Santa Ana River Trail. He embraced his role as "Pap Pap" to his grandchildren-Alex,
Katie, and Maddie-attending their events and calling daily to say, "Pap Pap love you."
In his later years, Clarence found happiness in weekend trips to the swap meet, long phone
calls with friends, and the companionship of his beloved pets. He was known for his knack
for fixing anything and his ever-present sense of humor. We'll always hear his voice saying,
"How you doin', bud?" and feel the warmth of his love in our hearts.
Clarence is preceded in death by his parents, Wanita and Victor Loy; and his brothers,
Victor "Mike," Harry, and John Loy. He is survived by his devoted wife, MaryAnn Loy; his
sister, Phyllis Loy; his children, Gillian (Patrick) Leon and Christina Loy; his grandchildren,
Alex, Katie, and Maddie; and his loyal Australian Cattle Dog, Cookie.
A funeral service will be held on September 19, 2025, at 2:45 PM at Riverside National
Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518.
