Clarence Peterkin Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Aug. 2, 2025.
Clarence George "Musso" Peterkin, 84, departed this earthly life on Monday, July 28, 2025, at his home in Bloomfield.
Clarence was born on December 12, 1940, in Roehampton, Montego Bay, Jamaica, son of the late Gertrude Smith-Carrol and her husband Ronald Carrol, and Zackie Peterkin. In his early years, Clarence worked alongside his father, Ronald Carrol, as an apprentice plumber at the Barnett Estate Sugar Factory. As a young adult, he migrated to England, where he became a licensed plumber. Upon returning to Jamaica, he briefly worked as a taxi driver before accepting a supervisor position as a plumber at Rollins Estate, contributing to the development of several hotels in Rose Hall. Known for his love of music and innovation, Clarence was the first person in Roehampton to install a Delco Plant, bringing refrigeration, electricity, and the joyful sound of music into his family home.
In the late 1970s, Clarence made his home in Hartford. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time at the Caribbean Social Club on Woodland Street. He was also an avid pool player and a beloved figure in the community, often recognized from a distance by the music playing from his car. Above all, Clarence cherished his family. Whether pulling up with McDonald's to feed neighborhood children, cooking a fresh pot of stew chicken, or offering oatmeal cookies, jelly, or ice cream, he made sure everyone, especially the children, were well cared for and well fed.
Clarence was a beloved father, brother, and friend, and known for his acts of kindness, compassion, and deep love for the Lord.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Jacqueline Peterkin-Williams of Hampton, GA, and Paula (Anthony) Mendez of the Cayman Islands; four sons, Tony Peterkin, Paul Peterkin, Garth Peterkin, and Rodcliffe Peterkin, all of Montego Bay, Jamaica; his extended children, Hope Montford, Yolanda Potter, and Willie Montford Jr., all of East Hartford, CT; two sisters, Deslyn (Asbert) Maxwell of West Haven, CT, and Joyce Carrol of Montego Bay, Jamaica; two brothers, Victor Carrol of Snellville, GA, and Ian (Adel) Carrol of Montego Bay, Jamaica; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Paulatte Peterkin; his sisters, Withel Edwards and Alma Carrol; and his brothers, Neville Carrol and Roy Carrol.
His family will receive friends on Friday, August 8, 10-11 a.m., with a Homegoing Service, 11 a.m., at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor.
Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield.
The Peterkin Family expresses our heartfelt appreciation for the love and support shown during our time of bereavement.
