Clarence Jerome Smith Clarence Jerome Smith, the first child of Annie B and the late Clarence Edward Smith was born on October 30, 1947 in Durham, NC. Clarence was known as Smitty or Jerry by his family and friends. He was raised in Clarksville, VA. He departed this life on June 1, 2010 to reunite with his father and be with the Lord. In the early years, Clarence was baptized at Cedargrove Baptist Church. When the family moved to Arlington, VA he joined Macedonia Baptist Church. He attended other religious services. He was a devoted Christian. Clarence graduated from Wakefield High School in 1965. He also attended Virginia Sate University in Petersburg, VA. He entered the United States Army and served in Vietnam. Clarence received the Purple Heart in July 1969, the Hero Ground Combat Bronze Star Medal and 3 Army accommodations medals. He honorable discharged in 1970. In 1972 he met Morris Evangeline Bowers, and married in 1973. They were blessed with daughter Tionne and son Eric, and 4 grandchildren, Brayden, Kaiden, Kaia and Trey. He worked many years in Sheet Metal and continued to work at Safeway for over 20 years. He never missed an opportunity to bring his beloved wife "Van" flowers and he would share his last dollar with family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, a special grandfather and a loyal friend. He was respected by all, and will always be remembered for his kindness and loving manner. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd, Woodbridge. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2010 for 10am in the Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Followed by interment at Quantico National Cemetery.
