Clarence Wolfrom Obituary
Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend
Clem Wolfrom was a man who cherished his family, faithfully supported Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, and dedicated his life to his passions. Alongside his brother, he built White Pine National golf course, and for 51 years, he devoted himself to caring for the golf courses at the Detroit Golf Club. Clem's wisdom, attention to detail, sharp sense of humor, and his memorable "Clem-isms" left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Surrounded by his family, Clem passed away peacefully at his home in Bloomfield Hills, which he shared with his beloved wife, Cheryl, on December 28th, 2024.
Born on February 8th, 1934, in Warren, Michigan, Clem was the son of Viola and Clarence Wolfrom, Sr. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Horticulture, which paved the way for his remarkable career as the Superintendent of the Detroit Golf Club-a role he held with distinction for over five decades.
Clem married his first wife, Jan, with whom he had two children and shared many cherished years until her passing. Later, Clem married Cheryl, and together they had one son and raised another from Cheryl's first marriage. Their loving bond endured until the time of Clem's passing.
Above all his achievements, Clem's greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted father to Keely (Frank), Zack, Cody (Tuane) and the late Larry; and a loving grandfather to Nick, Stephanie, and Matthew (Leonie). Clem was also a cherished brother to the late Gerald (Hilde, deceased), the late Wayne (Paula, deceased, and Lolly) and Bruce (Donna). He was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Clem's life was enriched by the many friendships he formed, filled with laughter, golf, and spirited games of euchre and gin.
Throughout his career, Clem earned many distinctions, including President of Michigan Turf Grass Foundation at Michigan State University, served on the board of Michigan Golf Course Superintends Association for 25 years, and Board of Trustees at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church for many years.
To honor Clem's memory, his family will receive friends for a memorial service at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 1100 Lone Pine Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302, on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
