Clarice Berg, age 94, of LaBolt, SD, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Koch Senior Living in Milbank.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg, SD. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, SD. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
The service will be livestreamed and recorded and will be viewable at the bottom of this page.
Clarice Elaine (Hedman) Berg was born on November 16, 1928, in Milbank, SD, to Gotfred and Lilly (Nord) Hedman. She grew up on a farm near LaBolt. Clarice attended grade school in LaBolt and graduated from Strandburg High School with the Class of 1946.
On August 12, 1949, Clarice was united in marriage with Loren C. Berg at the Tabor Lutheran Church parsonage in Strandburg, SD. To this union, they were blessed with four children.
Following high school, Clarice stayed at home to care for her mother and worked at the grocery store part-time. After her marriage to Loren, they moved to a farm where she helped Loren with farm work and raised her children. In 2009, Loren and Clarice moved into LaBolt.
Clarice was an avid seamstress and loved to crochet and enjoyed embroidery. She also loved to care for her garden and tend to her flower beds.
Along with caring for her children and keeping her home, Clarice was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in LaBolt where she played the organ for 20 years until it closed. She later became a member of Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg, SD. She was active in the Extension Club, participated in many church activities, was a member of the Ladies Aide, Family League, and made many quilts. Clarice enjoyed bowling, watching Minnesota Twins baseball, watching the Gameshow Network, and listening to music, especially polka.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Gloria (Dave) Orthaus of Goodwin, SD; Gary (Alexis) Berg of Springfield, MO; and James (Jody) Berg of LaBolt, SD; grandchildren: David (Michelle) Crocker, Alan (Heather) Crocker, Steve (Lisa) Crocker, Jared Berg (fiancé, Macy Wollschlager), Jordan (Emily) Berg, Jacob Berg, Mariah Berg (Alex Hausman), and Savannah Berg; great-grandchildren: Morgan (Brad) Meyer, Austin (Lindy) Crocker, Brittany Crocker (fiancé, Jake Koch), Holland Crocker, Chase Crocker, and Addison Crocker; great-great-grandchildren: Emberly Crocker and Beckett Crocker; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Loren in 2013, stillborn son, Larry; and brothers: Merlyn Hedman and Melbourne Hedman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the LaBolt Cemetery.
