Clarice Nelson Obituary

Visit the McMillan Mortuary website to view the full obituary.

Clarice Eleanor Nelson, age 95, passed away peacefully on Aug. 14, 2025, in St. George, Utah, of natural causes. She was born on Jan. 9, 1930 in Long Beach, California to Allen Hyrum and Ocie Jacobs Earl.

Growing up, her family traveled for several years across the southern states as her father was working as a pipe fitter in the oil fields. They eventually settled in Long Beach, California when Clarice was a teenager where she grew up and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.

Clarice married her sweetheart, Jim Nelson, in Downey, California on June 22, 1950. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona temple on March 26, 1955. The couple enjoyed nearly 63 years together raising their family, serving a mission in Kentucky for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, working weekly in the Las Vegas Temple for many years, and loving every minute they spent with each other. Clarice was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life.

Clarice and Jim had two children and there was nothing she loved more than spending time together as a family and supporting the things they loved to do. That included many camping trips, visits to Seal Beach, and riding motorcycles. When Jim took up flying lessons, Clarice decided to learn to fly herself and earned her solo pilot’s license.

Later in life, Clarice also worked at See’s Candy, wrapped gifts in department stores, and was a school lunch lady. She never complained and loved to spend time with her family and friends.

Clarice is survived by her son Edward and wife Leslie; daughter Susan and husband Kirk, nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two on the way.

Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025 at 10:30 am at Tonaquint Cemetery. A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. at McMillan Mortuary prior to the service.
