Clarissa Omoyemi Dorothea Jackson nee Nicol, 71, passed away at home on July 18, 2025. Clarissa was born on September 3, 1953, to Tani and Yomi Nicol in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
Clarissa was preceded in death by her father, Tanimowo Nicol, sister, Davida Nicol, and her foster sister Princess Thompson. She is survived by her loving mother, Arminda Areyomi Nicol; only daughter, Sybil Ayodele Jackson; granddaughter, Olivia Jackson; brother, Jonathan Nicol (Janie); and sisters, Mionette Coker, Newtona Turner (Dennis), Hazel James (Sahr), Ivor Amartey(Gloria); nieces and nephews in the United States, Sierra Leone and The Gambia; a foster sister Nellie; the Nicol, Faulkner, Willoughby, Sawyerr families and a host of close family and friends. Clarissa attended the FSSG Primary, Syke Street Municipal and YWCA Secondary Schools in Sierra Leone, after which she worked at the CPC and National Insurance Companies before proceeding to the USA in 1979. Clarissa attended New York City Technical College where she obtained an Associate of Arts degree.
She resided in New York and Wilmington, North Carolina before relocating to Winston Salem on her retirement. She was married to Philip Esehtongie Jackson (deceased) for 32 years.
A vigil will be held on August 9, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
Funeral service will be conducted, at 2:00 PM on August 10, 2025, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 2575 Parkway Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Viewing will take place at 1:00 PM.
