Sergeant First Class William H. Stoner, Sr., USMC (Ret.), 79, of Dauphin, passed away Monday August 29, 2022 in the comfort of the home he built with his own hands.
Born July 24, 1943, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Elwood H. and Marie D. (Hipple) Stoner.
A graduate of John Harris High School, Bill later earned his Associate degree from Harrisburg Area Community College. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years prior to earning his honorable discharge. For 35 years, Bill had worked as a Coatings Engineer for TRW/Chromalloy prior to becoming an Independent Consultant. An avid hunter – particularly with a bow and arrow – and fisherman, he also enjoyed reading. Bill was a member of American Legion Post 751, Enola.
In addition to his wife, Gail E. (Pearson) Kennedy Stoner, he is survived by his daughter, Kelli S. Bretz and her husband Dwight; son, William H. Stoner, Jr.; stepdaughters, Shelley Morrison and her husband, John Calvin "J.C.", Sherri Clubley and her husband, Wade, and Susan Kennedy; three granddaughters, two step granddaughters and two step grandsons. He is also survived by his sisters, Helen L. Over and Deborah A. Bender and brothers, Michael R. Stoner and Steven A. Stoner. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sisters, Sandra L. Zerance and Charlene Lucabaugh and brothers, Barry L. Stoner and Herbert E. Stoner.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for his viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday September 7, 2022 at the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Jonathan Weigel, officiating. His committal service with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
