Funeral service for Retired Sergeant First Class David King, 74, of
Lawton, OK will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at First Baptist West, 7302 NW Cache Rd, with Barry Cornish and Will Ferguson officiating.
Burial will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.
Viewing will be held from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at the funeral home.
Mr. King passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025 in
Lawton, OK.
David was born on November 20, 1950 in Roanoke, Virginia to David E. and Lucille (Sampson) King. He grew up and graduated from Jefferson High School. After graduation, he joined The United States Army and honorably served for 21 years. During his service he received many awards and medals, including the National Defense Service Medal w/ Service Star, Army Achievement Medal w/Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal-6, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-4, NCO Professional Development Ribbon-3, Marksman Badge (rifle m16), and the Meritorious Service Medal. He met Sunok Im at Camp Humphrey's in South Korea whom he later married on October 13, 1984 in Dillon, South Carolina and to this union two daughters were added. David loved the Lord and was a faithful member at First Baptist West where he served in many different roles which included Sunday School teacher, Deacon/Yokefellow, usher, many times he led the Alongsider and 2:7 Bible studies, which he was very passionate about. He also hosted a connect group in his home and always prepared a meal for the members. He also cooked for the church holiday meals, the M28 outreach program, the Men's Breakfast, and the Wednesday night meal, where he was famous for his meatloaf. Mr. King loved his country and was very patriotic, he enjoyed gardening and cooking.
David is survived by his wife, Sunok, of the home; his daughters, Holley Floyd and her husband, Brian, and Diane King; his brother, William King and his wife, Sue; his sister, Jane Angle and her husband, Kenneth; his granddaughters, Chloe Floyd and Cassidy Floyd; and many other loving family members.
Mr. King is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirly Karnes; and his brother, Roger King.
