Claude Boutote
"Our Hero" "Superman"
WOLCOTT- Mr. Claude Boutote, 93, husband of Albertine (Madore) Boutote died peacefully on June 15, 2024 at the VITAS Unit at St. Marys Hospital with his family by his side. He was "Our Hero", "Our Superman". Claude has been a hero his entire life.
Born January 3, 1931 in Van Buren, Maine. Son of Felix & Stella (Sirois) Boutote. He helped his mom & dad at their family-owned grocery store in Maine. Claude left home at 16 years old to join the U.S. Army as a combat medic, where he saved countless lives including his own. During a horrific battle, a half-track ran him over chipping his hip and broke 3 ribs earning him a purple heart. As the determined individual that he is, Claude crawled 3 days back to camp. Upon conclusion of his hospital stay, Claude was given the option to return to the states or back to the battle fields. Claude chose to return to the frontline.
Claude was always there at the drop of a chapeau (hat) for his family, whether it was an emergency or to just fix something (Jack of all Trades, Master of All). There was nothing he wouldnt do for his daughters and their families; built Debbies garage, assisted in renovating Kathys home and laying the groundwork for Lindas Roxbury home.
Claude, Albertine & their 3 daughters celebrated their family at every holiday with gatherings at their Wolcott home that Claude built in 1961. Claude was an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, son, brother & uncle. At the age of 93, his daughter Linda dubbed him "Superman" adorning him with a superman cape, because of his strength & determination our entire lives. We will always remember his phrases; "do something even if its wrong", "improvise" and our favorites "Bonne Femme" (Good Woman) & "Ma Fille" (My Girl). Your Bonne Femme & 3 Ma Filles miss you Claude/dad!
In addition to his wife Albertine (Madore) Boutote, Claude is survived by his daughters, Debbie & son in-law Mark Normandy, Kathy & son in-law Chuck Lewis, Linda Coviello & significant other Charles Class. Grandsons; Mark Normandy II & significant other Holly Carneiro, Curtis Normandy & significant other Anne Weidner, Steve Normandy, Colton Coviello & granddaughter in-law Lexie & great-grandson Raylan, and Austin Coviello & significant other Kayley Bresson. Brother June Boutote & sister in-law Eva. Sister In-law; Natalie Pelletier and Ada Boutote.
Claude was predeceased by his son Steve Boutote 1967, Parents: Felix 1966 & Stella (Sirois) 1984 Boutote. In-laws: Alex 1983 & Henreitta (Pelletier) 1977 Madore. Brothers: Wilmer 1942, George 2021 & sister in-law Hilda 1990, Gilbert 2006 & sister in-law Mary 2003. Sisters: Theresa 1996 & brother in-law Will Soucier 1991, Alice 1996 & brother in-law Rheal Lacombe 1999, Gloria 2023 & brother in-law Bobby Lamontagne 2016.
He served in the US Army, 14 Jan 1948 13 Jan 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He was a Technical Corporal Combat Medic in the Medical Detachment - 24th Infantry Division - Artillery Battalion.
Upon Claudes return to Maine from military service, he did odd jobs like driving a concrete truck for 3 months building the Allagash bridge and worked at the local mill. March 1953, he moved to Connecticut where manufacturing was booming. Claude worked at Marlin Rockwell, Plainville, CT - Superior Electric, Bristol, CT - Fafnir Bearing, New Britain, CT.
Then there was the Flood of 55; Claudes dad, Felix, provoked Claude to work construction with him. You see, there wasnt a job Felix wouldnt try. Felix began Claudes career in construction, where he flourished. Claude taught himself all he needed to know to run commercial construction sites; reading & understanding complex blueprints, scheduling sub-contractors, hiring & firing union carpenters, fighting with union representatives and at times engineers. Climbing the carpenter ranks; apprentice, journeyman, foreman, to site superintendent. Orchestrating construction jobs such as ramp garages, bridges, schools, apartment buildings to name a few. Claude retired from Waterbury Construction in 1993.
Claude was a parishioner of St Pius X Church/St. Basil the Great Parish, a Wolcott resident since 1961 and a member of the VFW in Wolcott.
Carpentry wasnt just a career, it was Claudes passion. Although, he would never admit to it. Claude was a very humble man. From the home built by Claude to his pristine yard and carpet-like lawn. He loved tinkering in the workshop with his grandsons when they were young. Claude even helped Curt build a custom van, which began Curts 4-year cross country journey working remotely.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday June 21st at 11 AM. Everyone is asked to meet directly at St. Pius X Church/ St. Basil the Great Parish 517 Woodtick Rd, Wolcott, CT. Burial with full military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
