Funeral Service for Claude Chapman, age 98, of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Sterling Cemetery with Brandon Hopper, Jackson Rhyne, Jacob Bell, Joe Chapman, Lee Chapman, and Tim Sewell serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Mr. Chapman passed away at his home on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
Claude Ellis Chapman was born November 10, 1925 in Hopkins County. He was the 2nd born son of Harley Raymond Chapman and Julia Rogers Chapman. He joined the Navy when he was 18 years old and served in World War II and was proud to do so. Claude was a mechanic by trade. He owned and operated a radiator shop in Sulphur Springs for over 40 years. Claude was a member of Central Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.
He is survived by his son, CR Chapman, and wife, Debbie; daughter, Ann Ratliff; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Too many to name. He is also survived by two sisters, Selena and Jo; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Claude was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Chapman, whom he married in December 1964 and was the love of his life. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Rebecca, Venera and her husband Jimmie Dodd; son, Kenneth Hopper and son-in-law John Ratliff. Being from a family of 11 siblings he was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
He had a great love for life; but was more than ready to step off into eternity at the age of 98 years and 8 months.
