Claude LaVon Mitchell, 64, passed away on December 15, 2025 at Frye Regional Medical Center.
LaVon was born in Iredell County, North Carolina on June 24, 1961, to the late Claude Junior Mitchell and Mary Katherine Wilson Mitchell. He graduated from West Iredell High School in 1980, where he enjoyed playing the trumpet in the band. After graduation, LaVon worked at Thomasville Furniture and Kewaunee. He was also known as “Mr. Video Man,” finding great joy in recording special occasions for others. LaVon will be remembered for his deep love of music and the joy he brought to others through his talent. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, he could often be found with a guitar in hand, a harmonica nearby, or seated at the piano. He enjoyed dressing his best and attending—and playing piano and trumpet at—various churches. LaVon was a faithful member of Western Avenue Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
LaVon is survived by his sisters, Kathy Miller of Statesville and Renea Henderson of Asheboro, along with several nieces and great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m.at Bright Light Baptist Church, 478 Trinity Road, Statesville, NC 28625. Officiating is Pastor Jayson Fox and Sanford Neil.
A private burial will be held at Hams Grove Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a nonprofit dear to the family, Delivering a Blessing, P.O. Box 2446, Asheboro, NC 27205.
