Claudia Lever

Claudia Scholl Lever, 83, widow of William E (Bill) Lever, died Tuesday April 29 at The Groves Assisted Living in Oak Ridge, TN.
She was born in Indianapolis IN to Robert Allen and Maxine Williams Scholl, the oldest of three children. Claudia attended elementary school in Kokomo IN and high school in Plainfield IN, graduating in 1959 as Class Valedictorian and a National Merit Scholarship finalist. She graduated magna cum laude from Wittenberg University in 1963 and earned a masters in statistics at Florida State University where she met her husband.
They moved to Oak Ridge TN in 1966 to work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. She was subsequently employed by QualPro of Knoxville and by Midwest Technical at Lockheed Martin. Claudia was married to William Edwin Lever for fifty years until his death in 2015.
They had two children, Robert Edwin and Sandra Elaine (deceased).
An active member of Grace Lutheran Church, she served as Treasurer and sang in the choir. She also volunteered with the CONTACT Care Line. Always interested in civic affairs, Claudia was a member of Oak Ridge Planning Commission from 1997-2022, an officer in both the Oak Ridge and Tennessee League of Women Voters, and a faithful election polling station volunteer. She enjoyed studying history and science and literature in the Oak Ridge Institute for Continued Learning, never shying away from difficult subjects.
Claudia is survived by son Ed, sister Janet Lockhart (Joe) and nieces Marie Lockhart Montavon, Carole Lockhart Foster, Christine Ferry Paull, Sharon Barr Rairigh, and Diane Ferry Waugh. In addition to husband Bill and daughter Sandy, she was predeceased by her brother, James Scholl.
The memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 131 W Gettysburg Ave, Oak Ridge TN 37830, on Saturday, May 24, 10:30 AM, with visitation following. Interment of ashes will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
Weatherford Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or to Lupus Foundation of America.
