Claudius E. Roberts, the Mayor of Old Fort, joined his brothers and sisters in Heaven on August 5th, 2023. Born February 8th, 1940 to the late C.P and Annie (nee Brewton) Roberts in Blackshear, Georgia. Loving husband of 57 years to Marjorie J. Roberts (nee Baker). Cherished Father of Lyndon N. Lewis, Claude R. Roberts, Joel E. Roberts, and Rhonda (the late Jerry) Pennington. Beloved Papaw to Claudia, Dylan, and Taylor Roberts, Jacob Cheney, Rebecca Rattenbury, Bud, Aaron, and Jammie Pennington, and Amanda Flischel. The greatest Paw Paw Jo to several Great-Grandchildren, and a handful of Great-Great-Grandchildren. Loyal Brother to J.C. Roberts and a whole family of other siblings that preceded him. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As stated above, Claude was the Mayor of Old Fort. Not an official title mind you, but one he took seriously enough to earn. When someone came to his community, he was always the most generous person there. If you needed a penny, he would give you his last, and even if he didn't have one on him, it became his mission to find you one. Prior to that title however, he served his country in the Navy during Korea, serving on the USS Ranger during its training just after completion. This dedicated to service and generosity is what would lead him to join the Freemason's and Syrian Shriners. For 50 years, he dedicated his life to them, and was proud of his service through even the toughest of times. He was a big Farm Boy, and not just the way you are thinking. You couldn't get the man off his tractors, and treated the animals he kept around him as one of his own children.
Claude had a big heart of gold to go with his big physicality, and everyone who he ever met will miss him dearly.
Visitation will take place Thursday, August 10th, 2023 from 5pm until 8pm funeral service. His final military salute will take place during the visitation at 6pm, and the Freemason's will say their goodbyes before the service at 7:45pm. All services will take place at Moore Family Funeral Home, 6708 Main St. Newtown, OH 45244.
Burial will take place the following day at South Sparta Cemetery, 13975 W County Line Rd, Moores Hill, IN 47032. Service starting around 10:30am. Hearse will be leaving the funeral home at 9am if you would like to follow us there.
