Clayton J. McGowan, 74, of Whitesboro passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at the Abraham House on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
He was born on April 13, 1949 in Utica a son of the late Harry and Veronica (Bulat) McGowan. He served his country with honor in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War.
On April 24, 1976 at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford he was united in marriage to Nancy Cardamone, a blessed union of over 39 years filled with much love and mutual devotion. Mrs. McGowan passed away on July 31, 2015.
Mr. McGowan was employed with TECT Utica Corporation located in Whitesboro, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
He was a member of St. Paul' Catholic Church in Whitesboro.
He was a Whitesboro Warriors High School Football fan, as well as a devout Green Bay Packers fan. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is remembered by his family as a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time that he spent with his family, especially his adored grandchildren.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Adriana McGowan of Los Angeles, CA; and a daughter Eileen McGowan of Whitesboro. He leaves his grandchildren, Katelyn Flanders, and Reagan and Riley McGowan. He also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Marilyn McGowan of Oriskany and a sister and brother-in-law, Claudette and Richard Jones of Iowa, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Christopher McGowan.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the Rome Abraham House and Wynn Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion given to Mr. McGowan during his illness.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 40 Main St. Whitesboro, a service will follow at 6:00 PM with Deacon Chris Engle of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Whitesboro officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in the summer in St. Stanislaus Bishop & Martyr Cemetery in Whitesboro.
