Cleon Koone Obituary

Cleon Marion Koone of Wooster, Arkansas, passed away on March 30, 2025, surrounded by his family. Cleon was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Cleveland, Arkansas, just north of the New Liberty church of Christ.

Cleon attended Scotland Public Schools, Wonderview Public Schools and Vilonia Public Schools. The family moved to Wooster in 1947 and he then graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1951 at the age of 16.

He started working for Western Electric and was transferred to Missouri where he met Marilyn at a little league ballpark. Cleon served on the Conway School Board in the late 1960s. He retired from Southwestern Bell after 34 years of service. He worked on his farm, and he continued to serve his community.

In serving his community, Cleon served as a justice of the peace for 12 years. Cleon was honored as Wooster Citizen of the Year which was one of his favorite accomplishments. He was a member of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association and served as an officer. Cleon was a Freemason, and he was a member of the Greenbrier church of Christ.

Cleon was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Reba Koone, of 68 years; his parents, Marion Daniel Koone and Carrie (Henley) Koone; and by his brothers, Max Koone and Neal Koone.

Cleon is survived by his sister, Ila Koone; four sons, Mark Koone (Donna) of Cleveland, Arkansas, Terry Koone (Jackie) of Monticello, Arkansas, Michael Koone of Wiley, Texas, and David Koone (Michelle) of Conway, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Kevin Koone (Shea) of Dongola, Illinois, Kristen Marter (David) in Monticello, Arkansas, Melaine Bradford (Matthew) of Vilonia, Arkansas, Steven Koone of Monticello, Arkansas, Kayla Harrod (Carl) of Greenbrier, Arkansas, and Owen Koone (Jenna) of Greenbrier, Arkansas; and 11 great grands, Dessie McCarty, Grant Pruitt, Brayden Bussell, Madison Bussell, Flint Koone, Jansen Koone, Beckett Koone, Ava Harrod, Shelby Koone, Brooks Harrod and Allie Jean Koone.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Stephanie with Arkansas Hospice and Greenbrier Senior Center.

We will miss Cleon at Senior Citizens. He shared many stories of his life. Terry and David took turns bringing him to the center, and we loved visiting with them as well.
