Cliff "Mutt" Powell

Cliff "Mutt" Powell, age 63, of London, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
He leaves behind three children, Carrie Powell, Clifton Shane Powell, Clyde Mills, all of London, KY; one sister, Lois Jones of Barbourville, KY; five grandchildren, Dawson Taylor, Brody Taylor, Mason Taylor, Sadie Taylor, Harper Taylor; his dog, Spanky; plus a host of other family and friends to cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Gail Mills Powell; his parents, Jess and Hattie Smith Powell; six siblings, Morgan Powell, Troy Smith, Anna Sue Smith, Ima Jean Foley, Marie Donnelly, Bertha Rose; and by his best friend, David "Bird" Fredrick.
Cliff leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty. He was known for his big heart, his adventurous spirit, and his deep love for the simple joys in life.
Cliff worked for 15 years at Laurel Grocery, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature. Outside of work, he found joy in the outdoors-whether it was riding his side-by-side, spending time in nature, or enjoying anything with wheels. He especially liked Jeeps, always appreciating their rugged style and adventurous feel.
A loyal companion to his dog Spanky, Cliff shared a special bond with his four-legged friend. He also had a competitive side, often found enjoying a good game of pool with friends. Cliff had a warm, welcoming home and loved having company over-family, friends, and anyone who needed a place to feel at ease. More than anything, Cliff loved his people. He was devoted to his family and friends and always made time for those he cared about. His laughter, his stories, and his presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A funeral service honoring Cliff "Mutt" Powell will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Johnny Shell officiating. Interment will follow at Nicholson Cemetery in London, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 2, 2025 beginning at 6:00 p.m., also at the funeral home. The pallbearers will be Dawson Taylor, Mason Taylor, Austin Sizemore, Carson Williams, Aaron Smith and James Chadwell. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
