Clifford Beckman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory - Columbia on Feb. 3, 2026.
Clifford Thayer Beckman, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 26, 2026 in Boone County, Missouri. He was born November 6, 1940, in Buffalo, NY, to the late Mildred Thayer and August Beckman

.

Cliff, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on the earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, his friends, and the countless others whose lives were touched by his amazing kindness.

He received his BS of Mechanical Engineering at Tufts University and was subsequently employed by DuPont for the next 30 years. His engineering mindset spread far beyond his job to fixing, improving, and building everything he could. His garage full of tools was a testament to his craft and every family member cherishes something that he built with his own hands and heart. Working on his vehicles was something he enjoyed, with the restoration of a 1968 MGB being the crown jewel of his accomplishments.

Cliff enjoyed carrying on his family's tradition of embracing travel and all the opportunities it created. He and his wife, Sue, traveled extensively. Every year took them to a different destination where they enjoyed exploring new countries and cultures. He also loved camping across the US and relaxing at the cottage on the calming shores of Lake Michigan with his family. He was never without his loving golden retriever companions by his side.

Cliff poured his heart and soul into any endeavor he took on. His church became his second home and he treated the building and its members as his own. He could be counted on to keep up the grounds, plan outreach events, and take part in the fun fellowship activities provided. He would always be one of the first to welcome new members and help them find their place in their new church family.

Cliff is survived by his loving wife Susan Beckman (born Dunham); sister Lucille Beckman; stepbrother Peter (Carlene) Goldthwaite; daughters Nancy Miller (Thomas) and Jennifer Siebert (Jeffrey); grandchildren Heather (Jordan) Potter, Nathan (Elena) Miller, Ryan Siebert and Eric Siebert; and he will be greatly missed by his faithful golden retriever Hannah.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents Mildred and August Beckman; stepparents Robert and Ellen Godthwaite; golden retrievers Ginger, Sunshine, Sadie, and Bonnie.

A celebration of Cliff's life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 27, 2026 at Columbia United Church of Christ. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A celebratory luncheon will be served at the church at the conclusion of the service. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Columbia United Church of Christ or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory, 12 E. Ash St.; Columbia, Missouri 65203. (573) 449-4153. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.milardfamilychapels.com.

I worked with Cliff at the Du Pont Company in Leominster, and remember him as kind, helpful, and a team player. He ran the Bristling Department. I was a production foreman in the adjoining Molding Department. May God bless Cliff, and keep him safe until we see him again in the Resurrected Christ. All our love and prayers for Cliff, his family, and all who love him! Steve and MarySandra Foster, Friendswood, Texas

I'm so sorry for your loss. Cliff was a wonderful man - so full of life, positivity, kindness, gentleness....who was so thoughtful and generous, who freely gave his beautiful smiles and hugs and really cared how you were doing. He loved Sue and his family so much as well as his church family (and his sports car:). Cliff will live on in all lucky enough to have known him. God bless you and all who are grieving the loss of this amazing man. I'm here for you so let me know what I can do to help. Sincerely, Anne Heine
