Clifford Lee Collier transitioned peacefully into God's arms on November 17. 2024. He was the beloved son of the late Lonnie and Willie Mae Collier.
Born August 16, 1953 in Ruleville, Mississippi, Clifford was the third oldest of nine children. Although Clifford's life journey was marked by many challenges because of his disability, he was determined to be as "normal" as possible. His parents did everything they could to make life a little easier for Clifford by giving him the tools and guidance to maximize his abilities and live his life to his fullest potential.
Clifford attended Taylor Park Elementary School, Freeport Junior High, Freeport Senior High and Highland Community College. Clifford favorite subject was math, especially addition, as he was a mental calculator with a prodigious ability to add multiple digit numbers very quickly.
Clifford was a member of Mt Calvary Church of God in Christ. As a youngster, Clifford was active in Sunday school and YPWW (Young People Willing Workers) youth group.
Despite limitations, Clifford didn't see what he couldn't do, but the many things he could do. It was his former pastor of Mt Calvary COGIC, the late Elder George Wight who recognized Clifford's unique ability instead of his disability, and gave him small jobs in the church which helped build his self-confidence.
At an early age, Clifford developed an interest in games. Clifford loved to watch and play games, and challenged anyone to board games, Box Hockey, Croquet, and even Jack's. Whoever played with him was likely seen sitting or standing observing his unique skills because he almost always won every game he played. As Clifford got older, he developed an interest in game shows. He loved "Family Feud" and would watch it over and over again. Clifford also loved watching basketball. Two of his favorite teams were Chicago Bulls and Golden State Warriors.
Clifford loved having his own money but unable to work a regular job because of his disability. Clifford didn't let that stop him as he would recycle bottles, and secure odd and end jobs cutting lawns, cleaning the church, and community center.
Clifford was very frugal with money and would often search the newspapers for coupons and savings. You would see him shopping at the local stores sometimes for items that he really didn't need. It seems that shopping gave his life meaning, as it provided a sense of structure and made him feel a part of his Community.
Clifford passed away peacefully. He is now in Heaven with his father and mother, Lonnie and Willie Mae Collier, 2 brothers, Eugene and Ronnie Collier and relatives who love him dearly. He is survived by three brothers; Calvin (Kym) and Troy Collier of Freeport, Illinois and Terry Collier of Monrovia California. Three sisters; Dorothy (Michael) Lewis and Tabatha Ford of Freeport, and Ruby (Gregory) Richardson of Torrance California, 6 nephews, 2 nieces and a host of relatives and friends.

I AM HONORED TO GIVE CONDOLENCES TO THE ENTIRE COLLIER FAMILY ON BEHALF OF OUR BELOVED CLIFFORD COLLIER. I HAVE KNOWN CLIFFORD MY ENTIRE LIFE. I AM GRATEFUL TO HAVE HAD THE PRIVALEGE TO KNOW HIM AND DWELL IN HIS PRESENCE AS WELL. MY FAVORITE OUTSTANDING MEMORY OF CLIFFORD IS FROM BACK IN THE DAY WHEN WE ALL ATTENDED THE OLD MOUNT CALVERY CHURCH ON ORIEN STREET, ON THE EAST SIDE. RIGHT AFTER SUNDAY SCHOOL, WE WOULD GO TO THE BASEMENT AND THERE CLIFFORD LEE WAS - EVERY TIME- HOLDING A DELICIOUS BAG OF CANDY OF ALL KINDS. NO MONEY NEEDED, JUST ANSWER HIS QUESTIONS, VERY SIMPLE ONES OF HIS CHOICE, AND JUST LIKE THAT HE WOULD THROW YOU OUT CANDY. EVEN IF YOU ANSWERED MULTIPLE QUESTIONS CORRECTLY HE DID NOT DISCRIMINATE, YOU WOULD CONTINUE TO GET CANDY. THAT WAS SO FUN TO ME. ME AND TABBY WERE LIKE BEST FRIENDS, AND HER APARTMENT WAS THE ONLY ONE MY MOM WOULD LET ME GO TO, AND SHE TO MINES, AS WE GREASED EACH OTHER SCALP. AND ENJOYED EACH OTHERS COMPANY AND FAMILY. WITHIN THAT PRECIOUS FRIENDSHIP WAS A FEELING OF FAMILY AS I GOT TO KNOW CLIFFORD. CLIFFORD WAS DIRECT AND TO THE POINT WHEN HE WANTED TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO A QUESTION, AND I ALWAYS LOVED THAT ABOUT HIM. HE COULD MAKE ANYONE FEEL WELCOME IN HIS PRESENCE, AND GOOD CHEER WAS HIS NATURAL ABILITY. I WILL MISS YOU CLIFFORD, AND ALL THAT YOU ADDED TO LIFE, AND YOUR COMMUNITY. - GODSPEED, MISS LAURY MAE McCLELLAN
