Clifford R. Griffiths, forty-five-year resident of Glendora, NJ, passed away April 13, 2022, at the age of 75 years. Beloved husband of fifty-six-years of Susan Griffiths (nee Kelley). Dear brother-in-law of David Kelley (Lynn), the late George Kelley, Ronald Kelley (Lisa), Daniel Kelley and Paul Kelley (deceased) (Beverly). He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews, as well as his dog, Arlo, who was his special companion.
Clifford was a veteran of the United States Army. He served from 1966-1968 achieving the rank of Sgt E-5. He was a 43-year life member of the Stetser-Lamartine American Legion Post #281, where he served as Post Commander 1985-87, 1987-91 and 1992-93. Since 1980 having served or chaired most post committees. In recent years he was Finance Chair, Jersey Boys State Chair and Oratorical Contest Chair at Post 281. Cliff was Camden County Commander 1987-88, Department Executive Committeeman 1989-1995. Serving or chairing many County and Department committees over the years including, Testimonial Dinner Chair and Ad book. Cliff was honored to serve as State Commander of The American Legion 2000-2001. Throughout his many years of service, he was a member or chaired most committees at the Department level. He currently was Chairman of the Convention Committee, a member of Revised American Legion Committee, on the Board of Directors of American Legion Jersey Boys State, and on the National level, he served as a Member of the Aerospace Committee from 2204-2018. Boys State is a program that was close to his heart. He was also a 29-year life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #8714 Glendora.
As a youth Cliff played baseball and basketball with the local Cramer Hill teams. In addition, he was very active at the YMCA in Camden where he became an outstanding swimmer and team leader. Cliff was honored as Boy of the Year in 1961.
Cliff loved sports (the Phillies, Eagles & 76'ers), music, adventure and grilling. He made the best steaks on the grill that could top most restaurants. He had a huge variety of music collection from classic to hard rock. Cliff loved being Santa at the Children Christmas Party at Post 281 for many years. He always had pets at his side that he adored; cats, a monkey, and many dogs over the years. He tried most things at least once, skiing, snowmobile, helicopter, paragliding, to name a few.
Cliff also excelled at pool games and chess like he did in most things he reached for.
Viewing will be Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Earle Funeral Home, 122 W. Church S., Blackwood, NJ 08012, where his prayer service will begin at 12:00 PM. Interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ, will take place the following Monday, May 2, 2022 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Gift of Life Donor Program at 401 N 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123 (please indicate "In Memory of Clifford R.
