Clifford “Cliff” Carl Haviland, 80, was born July 3rd, 1945 in Saratoga Spring, NY and passed away with family by his side on August 1st, 2025 in Overland Park, KS.
Cliff had a unique childhood as an "army brat" traveling across the US and Germany, eventually settling in Kansas City, Kansas. He served in the Air Force, being stationed at Hickman Air Force Base on Oahu and Kilauea Military Camp on Hawai’i. After being discharged, he returned to Kansas City, KS and in 1971, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou Veh, whom he was married 53 years. In 1975, he received his GED.
After proudly serving in the military, he was still dedicated to public service. He served as an Animal Control Officer at the Overland Park Police Department, followed by serving 19 years at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department as Fleet Manager and Animal Control Officer where he retired in 1998.
Cliff has always been an enthusiastic fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, a passion that brought him much joy. He watched them through the bad years and loved watching them in the good years where they have recently been in the Super Bowl. He would get so excited watching his beloved Chiefs. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling with family to places such as the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Northwest and the Atlantic Northeast. In 2022, he was able to take Mary Lou to Hawaii and show her where he served while stationed there in the Air Force.
He was a devoted husband and is survived by Mary Lou, a loving father to Wendy (Nathan) Hladky and Chad Haviland (Michelle), and a proud grandfather to Kaylene Frazee, Emma Haviland, Isaac Hladky, Aquila Hladky, and great-grandfather to KaliAunna and Julian. He is also survived by his sister Lee Colvin and many other loving friends and family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Marie Haviland, and sisters, Channa Haviland, Holly Poje and great-grandson Kaiden Frazee.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Great Plains SPCA.
