Clifford Ingber Obituary

Clifford Ingber
April 1, 1954 - January 14, 2024
We sadly note the passing of Clifford J. Ingber of Stamford, Connecticut, a prominent contract security guard industry attorney for over 45 years, who left an indelible mark on the lives of his professional colleagues, friends, and family. Clifford died January 14 at the age of 69, having lived by his credo of the overriding importance of family, love, compassion, kindness, and empathy.
Born on April 1, 1954, Clifford is survived by his wife Aimes, brother Doug, children Juliet and Rachel, stepchildren Theodora and Hollis, three grandchildren - and his McLaren.
Clifford was predeceased by his parents, Max and Nettie and brother, Robert. His family was the center of his unwavering love and dedication. Clifford was one of three brothers born in Brooklyn and grew up on Long Island. Constant joking and banter belied a deep family bond which would continue when he became a father. He proudly worked and raised his children in Greenwich, Connecticut, enjoying its winding, scenic roads and generously sharing his home with friends and family.
Professionally, Clifford was a formidable attorney handling mostly mergers and acquisitions as well as nuanced employment issues. In 1977, at the age of 23, he graduated Hofstra Law School. He was the only attorney who specialized in the security guard industry when he began the Ingber Law Firm in 1988. A member of numerous professional and industry organizations, he was an adjunct professor of contract and employment law at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Clifford's passion for motor vehicles began with an Opel Rallye quickly escalating to include several specialty Porsches and Ferraris, racing a uniquely modified Subaru WRX featured on a cover of Car and Driver magazine, and concluding with an infamous blue McLaren 12c Spider. His love for all things automobile was a predicate for endless reading, researching, and discussion with those fortunate enough to have known him.
Beyond motorcars and professional achievements, Clifford was distinguished by his remarkable sense of humor and his unique ability to bring laughter to any situation, especially the irreverent. He enriched the lives of those around him, creating lasting memories with kindness and compassion. His informal nature and genuine connections with others will forever endear him to a wide circle of family and friends.
Clifford Ingber leaves behind a voluminous void in those who were lucky to be a part of his orbit. His journey was cut short of an intended retirement in Florida, where he was looking forward to time with his wife and pranking his kids and grandkids. Clifford would be honored to know that those who survived him were changed by him, and live brighter lives because of him.
The family requests donations in his name be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, Connecticut.

Cliff, Mr. Ingber, Bingsey -

We will all miss you very much. Thank you for raising two grounded, smart, and funny women, and for letting at least one of them hang out with the likes of me. Thank you for letting me be a part of your family. I have such fond memories of coming on weekend trips upstate or crashing family picnics in New Jersey. Not only were you somehow okay with me constantly being at your house, but you even let me be your intern, so you had to deal with me at your work as well.

Thanks for the super strong coffee and delicious challah bread French toast. Thanks for always letting Juliet and me be ourselves. Between you and me, that may have been a questionable strategy (read: Egyptian Video), but it was nevertheless appreciated.

I'll remember you as a kind, loving, generous father to my best friend. You won the Laughing Game in the car and in the game of life. And we'll all do well to remember that example.

Love,

Charlotte, Carlton, Charleston Chew

My heart aches to write this post. Since high school Juliet has been a steadfast presence in my life and a friend who has become family. I will always remember your dad's tremendous humor and ability to make every situation fun. I also won't forget our white knuckled Subaru rides and the unforgettable wedding your dad hosted in your beautiful home in Greenwich. He should be proud of his legacy in you, Juliet - a strong, smart, funny, loyal wife, mother, and friend. You carry so much of him in you.

I am still trying to process the loss of Cliff. I think I primarily knew him through the eyes of his eldest daughter, Juliet, who I am so fortunate to have as my daughter in law. She looked forward to their chats, his sense of humor, his sense of family and I think for her, was an ever present rock and safe place to fall. The loss of a parent is never easy. Cliff, however raised two very strong and capable young women. He will be missed but never forgotten. I thank him for giving me Juliet to have in my life. She has been such a blessing.

I have wanted to write something for the past few days, but I have been thinking about what I want to say. I am struggling to find the words I want to use to express the love for a man that meant so much to me, while also trying to be there in support of my wife who just lost her father. It's hard to grieve when you're trying to be strong for the ones you love. I want to be a rock, but I also need to embrace this emptiness that is now taking hold of me inside. Someone that was so special to me has been taken away. It hurts.

I met Cliff a few weeks after my father passed away. For the past 14 years I have looked at him as much more than a father-in-law, but as a father figure I very much needed at the time we met. He was there for me, and I could not have asked for a better man to spend those years with. In the first few years after we met, he was truly one of my best friends - we would go out to eat, go to sports events and sometimes just hang out at his house on the couch...alone, just the boys. Juliet used to joke, "I'm worried you love him more than me..." I'd like to think that he saw how heartbroken I was that I had just lost my father, and he was there to fill that void. It meant the world to me.

I had my first meal with Cliff at the Gingerman in Greenwich back in 2009 - with his daughters Juliet and Ray. We talked about my job, whether his Jets or my Dolphins had a better shot at making the playoffs that year (the Jets made it), and I ordered the chicken. I had my last meal with Cliff at Quality Meats in NYC just a few weeks ago - with his daughter/my wife Juliet, along with my children/his grandchildren, little Ike and Norah. We talked about him planning to move to Miami, he gave little Ike a present (a Ferrari hat) and I ordered a steak. While so much time had passed between those meals, I can honestly say I was just as comfortable at the last as I was the first. He walked us back to our hotel. It was cold, and he watched little Ike run back and forth on the sidewalk with a big smile on his face. I'm glad I got to hug him one last time and tell him I loved him. He responded the way he always did, "I luv ya, kid."

Cliff. I am going to miss you. I'm sad you never made it down to Miami, that you won't get to come to Grandparents Day at school, that you won't be there next Thanksgiving, that I won't get to hear anymore of your dad jokes. I'm just sad your gone.

But I am grateful for having known you, and having the time with you that I did. You were a great listener, an intelligent and accomplished man and someone who could always make me smile. You were one of my favorite people.

This was a tremendous tribute to a remarkable man. Whenever I met him, I was struck by how vibrant he seemed, and by his deep love for his daughters. I know he will be sorely missed by so many who loved him.
