Clifford Thieneman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Owen Funeral Home - Dixie Highway on Aug. 20, 2025.
Clifford Thieneman, Sr., 91, went home to his heavenly father on August 19, 2025. Cliff graduated from Flaget in 1952, and after working a couple years at the Peaslee Gaulbert Corporation in Louisville, he and his twin brother, Clinton, started their own construction business, C & C builders in 1955. In 1964 Cliff started his own company, Clifford Thieneman Company, Inc., building single-family and multi-family housing, as well as several commercial buildings. He, along with partners, has developed several subdivision communities in Jefferson County. Some of these include Gagel Park, Cloverleaf, Windsor Lakes, Yorktown South, Auburndale Gardens, and Oak Valley Estates. Along with several of his brothers, he was involved in the development of Saratoga Springs and Saratoga Estates, Forest Springs and Forest Springs North, as well as various other subdivisions, and apartment complexes, including several shopping centers. Along with all this building, Cliff has been very involved with the Home Builders Association of Louisville. He served on various committees and has served on the board of directors at various times. He co-chaired and has built in numerous Homeramas. He was named builder of the year in 1991. In 2000 he was named as an honorary lifetime member. He has served on the local appeals board for the building code department since 1966. Cliff's civic involvement has included such things as a volunteer in the Valley Sports Little League, being a sponsor of many baseball teams, and served as a director on their board. He has used his expertise in the building industry by being an advisor to the Detrick Vocational School for their construction trades area. He served as commissioner on the Louisville Jefferson County planning and zoning commission from 1990 to 1999. During that time he was Chairman of the Land development and transportation committee, and also served on the Cornerstone 2020 project committee, developing the scope of land used for the next century. Cliff's life has always included involvement and activities in his church. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He served on their athletic board and contributed much time and effort in all the spiritual and charitable events of the parish. He helped raise funds for the construction of a library and computer room for the church's school. He and his company remodeled the classrooms, adding new heating and air-conditioning units. Cliff was married 40 years to Agnes, who passed away in 1994. He was married to his wife Lynn for 29 years. He enjoyed traveling and playing golf and gin at Audubon Country Club. He loved spending time with all his kids and grandkids, spoiling them with Jelly Beans. Cliff has been an example of integrity, loyalty, and devotion to his family, industry, and community. Preceded in death by his wife Agnes, brothers and sisters Ray, Bob, Tom, Bill, Richard, Clint and Mary Helen, grandson Kyle Haywood. Left behind to cherish his memory, wife Lynn (Givens), children Kathy Thieneman, Clifford "Pete" Thieneman Jr. (Donna), Karen Haywood, Kevin Thieneman (Cindy), Kim Long (Mike), Heather Jackson (David), brother Leo Thieneman (Shirley), sister Martha Stuber, eighteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be Friday August 22, 2025, at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 5505 New Cut Road, Louisville KY with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00-8:00pm at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway.

It is with great sadness I read this obituary of Clifford Thieneman . It was approximately 2-3 weeks ago I called to see how my friend Clifford was doing and I asked the person to have Clifford call me when he had a chance. I would call and talk to Clifford on occasion to check on him and check on how the family was doing. I considered Clifford my friend and we seen each other on the road early in the morning as he was going to work and as I was heading to my office after dropping my daughter off at school . We waived as we passed each other , I often on many occasions referred to Clifford Thieneman as a complete gentleman and that he was , as well as his son Pete. I had a lot of admiration for Clifford Thieneman , and his son Pete as we crossed paths in the Real Estate business. When he told you something you could count on it . I considered him my friend and had a lot of respect for this fine man , I did not expect to see this but it explains why he did not return my phone call. He will be missed by many . God Bless his family. Jerry Hiser
