"What we do in this life echoes in eternity."

Clifton Riley Ausbrooks, surrounded by his loving children, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of April 9th, with the gentle light of dawn shining on his face in the comfort of his home.

Born on June 23, 1949, in Franklin, Kentucky, Clifton was a man of remarkable skill, quiet strength, and deep devotion to his family and country. From an early age, he discovered a passion for woodworking-a craft in which he would later become a true master. His brother Jackie once said, "If it could be built, Cliff was the man to do it," a sentiment that perfectly captures Clifton's ingenuity and determination.

After graduating from Franklin-Simpson High School, Clifton began his studies at the University of Kentucky. However, his plans shifted when he was drafted into the Vietnam War. Serving with distinction as a combat veteran, Clifton exemplified courage and commitment, facing the challenges of war with unwavering resolve. Mr. Ausbrooks served from 4 Oct 70 - 9 Nov 71,

Following his service, Clifton returned home and poured his talents into carpentry. As a master craftsman, he created everything from custom heirloom furniture and cabinetry to intricate restoration work on historic landmarks-including a cherished church in Franklin, Tennessee, and the grand stairwell of the Philips Society & Historical Museum in Maryland. He also served as a superintendent for many prominent builders, earning a reputation for excellence and reliability.

Clifton's love for the outdoors remained constant throughout his life. Whether fly-fishing on the Caney Fork River, camping under the stars, duck hunting with friends and family, or deer hunting in the early morning stillness, he found joy and peace in nature. He especially cherished his time in Slovenia with his son Chad, and his heart was full when teaching his grandchildren the timeless skills of blacksmithing, woodworking, marksmanship, and archery. Opening day of dove season was a holiday in Clifton's eyes-he delighted in making sure everyone was prepared and included.

A generous soul, Clifton gave back to causes close to his heart, including veterans' support organizations and wildlife conservation efforts. He was a lifetime member of DAV, Delta Waterfowl Federation, Wildlife Turkey Federation to name a few.

Later in life, he could often be found enjoying a good bourbon with his nephew Brandon, watching University of Kentucky basketball games, and hosting treasured family gatherings-from birthdays to holiday feasts-preparing alongside Gaylia and his daughters Tracy and Erika.

Clifton's legacy lives on in the family he so deeply loved:
His dear friend and mother of his children, Gaylia Donaldson,
His daughter Tracy McCann and her husband Allen McCann
His daughter Erika Moran,
And his son Chad Ausbrooks and wife Sarah Ausbrooks.

He was a proud grandfather to:
Bryce Ausbrooks, Logan Hyder and wife Margaret, Chase Ausbrooks, Taylor Segroves, Landon Fennell, Kennedy Segroves, Austen Ausbrooks, Azra Betzney, Aidan Moran, Caleb Moran, Lia Ausbrooks, and Isaac Ausbrooks.

And a beloved great-grandfather to Kaiya, Ian, and Chance.

He is also survived by his brothers: Sonny Ausbrooks (wife Eileen), Jackie Ausbrooks (wife Sarah), and Dan Ausbrooks.

Clifton was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maude Ausbrooks, and his sister-in-law, Jennifer Ausbrooks.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all who stood beside Clifton throughout his journey. A special thank you to Brandon and Holly Pollock, Paul and Katie Schultz, and Philip, Daniel, Peter, and Lenore Millay for their steadfast support. A final, deeply felt thanks goes to the Hosparus team, whose compassion and guidance brought great comfort in his final days.

Clifton lived a life rooted in craftsmanship, courage, and care for others. His memory lives in every piece he built, every lesson he shared, and every life he touched.
