Clinton Mills Froscher died supported by family and friends at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC on November 18, 2023. Clinton was born to Clarence and Marguerite Froscher in Annapolis, Maryland on 21 March 1955. He is survived by his brother, Torrey (Judith, Fernandina Beach, Florida) and two sisters, Marguerite Drew (Philip, Alvechurch, England) and Barbara (Bobi) (Fernandina Beach, Florida). He was a long-time companion of Mary Lee Schneiders of Arlington, Virginia, who died in 1999.



In his early teens, Clinton attended St Paul's school in London, England, where he began to cultivate a lifelong love of books. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in history. Clinton explored various career options and spent a summer picking cherries in Provence before finding work at Kramerbooks in Washington, DC. He rose to become lead book buyer and served in that capacity for more than 30 years. Publishers knew if Clinton was excited about a new release that they had a hit on their hands. At its height, Kramers could create a NY Times Best Seller just by sales at the one store.



Clinton was an adult convert to Catholicism and his faith was very important to him. In his later years, he was an active participant in the intellectual and social life of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family. He was a close friend of the late David L. Schindler, Dean Emeritus, and participated in many of the Institute's faculty workshops. He also supported the Institute's book projects and served as an acting editor of the North American edition of Communio: International Catholic Review.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1910 N Randolph St, Arlington, VA 22207. Burial will take place at noon at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201, followed by a reception.
