Cloyd Archie Samford

Cloyd Archie Samford, age 91, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024 at the Life CareCenter of Tullahoma, Tennessee.He was born in Chrisman, Illinois on November 4, 1932 to Cloyd and Olive (Bouslog)Samford.Archie was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Juanita (Haga) Samford of51 years, his second wife, Elizabeth (Hunter) Samford of 8 years, his two brothers;William and Dale Samford, and a sister, Arlene Samford.Survivors include his daughter Christy Perry (Dale) of Saint Charles, Missouri; sisterNorma Shumate (Harry) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.Archie always wanted to be a farmer. He grew up on a farm near Chrisman, Illinois. Hewas a member of 4-H and in Future Farmers of America during high school when hewon the honor to go to the National Convention his senior year. He served in the Armyfor two years where he was stationed around the US and in Germany. He returnedhome to farming. He married Juanita in 1958. Archie applied and received a patent fora new type of tractor seat that added stability and safety for the driver in the mid1960s. He and his family moved to Missouri in 1972 where he continued farming, andthey raised their daughter. He supplemented his income by becoming an over the roadtruck driver. He enjoyed seeing different areas of the country but was happiest when hewas on the farm out in the field. After retiring he moved to Tennessee. He metElizabeth, they were married and moved to Tullahoma in 2013. Archie was alwaysinvolved in church activities wherever he lived. Animals were constantly around him.He and Lizz had a dog, Duke, the last few years they lived in their house. Archieenjoyed having Duke visit him at the nursing home.A memorial service will be at Tullahoma Funeral Home, 401 Westside Drive, onSaturday, July 27, 2024 at 1:00 pm with visitation an hour before the service. Burial willbe at Franklin Cemetery near Chrisman, Illinois at a later date.In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Archies name to Hospice Compassus ofTullahoma, 1805 N. Jackson Street, Suite 11, Tullahoma, TN 37388 or your favoritecharity.The family would like to thank the staff of Life Care Center of Tullahoma and HospiceCompassus of Tullahoma for their wonderful loving care of Archie.
