Clyde Alexander Tew, Sr.

Clyde Alexander Tew, Sr., 83, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2020, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on January 21, 1937 in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Louella Marie Roy and Clyde Alexander Pardue. After his father passed away, Clyde's mother married Woodrow Wilson Tew and they raised Clyde and his 2 brothers, Richard Allen and Wayne Ellis. Clyde graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport in 1955 before attending Texas A&M University. Clyde was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets, graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration and was commissioned into the United States Army on May 23, 1959. Clyde married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Woodard, and together they had four children, Janna , Clyde Jr., Pamela & Christopher. Clyde proudly served his country for 5 ½ years in the 502nd Airborne Battle Group, 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles), Special Forces, Green Berets. Later, Clyde moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and married the love of his life, Jane Ann Tough. They raised three children together, Sarah Jane, AnnaMarie, & Bryan Ashby. The family moved to San Antonio in 1989 where Clyde worked for USAA until his retirement in 2005. They were active members of Coker United Methodist Church. In addition to being an avid Texas A&M Aggie fan, attending numerous home football games; he grew in his faith with other members through Bible Study Fellowship; and enjoyed reading and watching John Wayne movies. Clyde began cycling after retirement to "stay young for his family." With his beloved cycling friends, he successfully completed numerous bicycle rides around the USA, including 8 century rides, which raised money for ongoing research and treatment for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. One of his proudest moments was participating in the 2018 America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride around Lake Tahoe with 4 of his 7 children. Although Clyde may be remembered as a quiet man, he will also be remembered as fiercely loyal, loving, and devoted to his family and friends. He will remain in the hearts of many forever. In the kind words of a family friend, "Getting to know Clyde through the eyes of his children and personally over the years has been such an honor. I have learned and grown so much from him and the legacy he and Janie have created. I have learned and seen what loyalty, friendship, family, and supportive relationships look like. I have been inspired by his wisdom, discipline, passion for life, and willingness to continue to grow as a person and challenge himself as he aged. I have been moved by the love he shared with Janie, the joy in his eyes around his grandkids and great grandkids, and the pride he has for his children. I have watched him love his children unconditionally and navigate the hard times and the good times with class, grace, and grit. I am a better person, mother, and wife for having known and experienced Clyde and the Tew family in my life." Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Lou & Woody; brother, Wayne; son-in-law, David Frank Green III; and granddaughter, Meagan Elizabeth Green. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janie; brother, Richard Tew (Valerie); sister-in-law, Judy Scherrer (Matthew); 7 children: Janna Green; Clyde A. Tew, Jr. (Ann), Pamela Wimberley (Kirk), Christopher S. Tew (Andrea); Sarah Jane Noblin (Dave); AnnaMarie Weise (Dave); and Bryan A. Tew (Lauren); 17 grandchildren: Erin Green Lambert (Christopher), Elizabeth Green Olivier (Stephan); Ryan Tew, Lezley Tew Pridgen (John), Emily Tew Loftin (Gabe); Mysha Ewers Hillman (Jonathan), Morgan Ewers Burkett (Casey); Connor Tew Sharpe, Braden and Caroline Tew; JD and Sophie Noblin; Isabel, Madeline, and Ella Weise; and Clyde Ashby Tew; and 12 great-grandchildren: Meagan and David Lambert; Elisha Tew, Presley, Brooklyn, Judah, and Malachi Pridgen; Wylie Loftin; Ellarie, Everleigh, and Emelia Hillman, and Max Burkett; nephews, Gregory W. Tew; Allen W. Tew (Robin Gueydan); great niece/nephews: Alyssa Tew; Dare Gueydan, and Ajay and Duke Tew. A celebration of life ceremony will take place sometime in the future at Coker United Methodist Church where Clyde's final resting place will be in their beautiful outside Columbarium.
