Clyde Barngrover, a revered mechanic and admired family man, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on November 16, 1932, in Richland, Clyde built a life distinguished by his dedication to his craft and his love for his family.
Clyde had a remarkable career that began at the Mosby-Mack Ford dealership, where he honed his skills as a mechanic. He later joined A Auto Salvage in 1964, where he continued to work until his retirement in the early 2000s. Known as the best mechanic around, there wasn't anything Clyde couldn't fix, a testament to his relentless determination and expertise in his field.
In addition to his professional life, Clyde enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests that enriched his time. He loved to fish, roller skate, and hunt, often finding joy in the great outdoors. Camping brought him peace, while watching his grandchildren at their sporting events filled him with pride. Clyde had a special knack for making homemade ice cream, delighting in strawberry and vanilla flavors which became family favorites. If anyone needed help, he was always the first to lend a hand, making him a dependable figure in the lives of those around him.
Clyde was known for his very stubborn personality, a trait that often served him well in both his personal endeavors and career. His proudest accomplishments included being a part of the Kansas Hunting Dog Club and a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, where he built lasting friendships and contributed to the community.
He is survived by his loving children: Sherry (Gary) Meggison, Clyde (Hazel) Barngrover Jr., Sharon K. Spreer, and Clayton Barngrover Sr. Clyde cherished his role as a grandfather to Jason Meggison, Stacey (Jamie) Mirch, Chelsea Meggison, Misty (Dan) Ballinger, Christy Reed, Eric (Jennifer) Spreer, Laycee Spreer, Clayton Barngrover J., Dusty (Chrissy) Gruber, and Jaydyn Gardner, and was blessed with 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Cassius (Janice) Barngrover, Jr.
