Clyde Daugherty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brenner Mortuary Funeral & Cremation Services on Feb. 7, 2022.
Devoted husband, Clyde R. Daugherty, 74, of Pittsburg, KS passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 31, 2022 at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg with the love of his life by his side.
Clyde was born on May 10, 1947 to F. Morton "Tex" and Fannie Kate (Forbes) Daugherty in Houston, TX, but was raised in New Carrollton, MD. He subsequently met and was united in marriage to Nancy Walker on August 16, 1998. He loved telling everyone that she was his "childhood sweetheart that he had yet to meet!" They resided in the Baltimore area together for over 20 years before moving to her hometown of Pittsburg, KS in 2018.
Clyde was proud of his achievement as an Eagle Scout as well as his service to his Country in the U.S. Navy. He spent his active duty as a submariner aboard the USS Simon Bolivar. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Polaris Patrol Insignia.
He spent his working years as a fishing guide out of Harper's Ferry, MD; an Oyster Diver out of Chesapeake Bay, MD; an Aquarist at an aquarium store where he was the salt water dept manager responsible for procuring and selling Exotic & Tropical fish all over the world. He was also caretaker for his mother for a number of years until her death in 1996. He & his wife received their Real Estate Licenses in 2003 in anticipation of moving to Florida where they would better prepared to get their FL licenses; however, that dream was dashed due to a number of unfortunate occurrences.
Clyde seemed to be born with a love of nature. Both land & sea! His passion for fishing came to light when he caught his first fish when he was 3 years old. His father was so proud he immortalized it in a glass jar with formaldehyde. A jar that he has to this day-71 yrs later!
He spent his youth and adult life living an adventurous life of hiking, rock climbing, cave exploring, biking, camping, boating, canoeing, kayaking & fishing. He especially loved fly fishing, fly tying and making some of his own rods. He loved sharing many of these adventures with Nancy.
Some of their fondest times together were the vacations they took to the gorgeous turquoise waters of the Florida Keys where they enjoyed the endless, breathtaking sunrises and sunsets as well as the exquisite marine life and amazing seafood!
In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by her siblings, his only family: Ron (Leigh) Walker, Miami, FL; Marilyn Walker Short, Frontenac, KS; Tim (Roxanne) Walker, Pittsburg, KS; Susie Walker Edwards, KC, Mo; Jody Walker Flora (Jon Splitter), Mulberry, KS & Michael Walker, Pittsburg, KS. Also numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Michael Daugherty of Maryland; a sister-in-law, Debby Walker Smith (Ken) of Woodstock, GA and a brother-in-law, Robert Short (Marilyn), Frontenac, KS.
His devotion to his wife and his easy going personality and humor will be missed by all who knew him. Of all the people who's life he touched, his proudest moment was when he met his "soon to be" Forever Sweetheart. Nancy was a Country singer who sang to him one starstruck night in a bar in Greenbelt, MD, in what turned out to be his favorite song. She continued singing to him for the 29 years they were together, ending the last moments of his life again singing the first song she ever sang to him!
No services are planned at this time but a Celebration of Life and Love will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS.
