Clyde Cecil Hobbs

Clyde Cecil Hobbs, 88, of Mt. Vernon, IN passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025. He was born on July 24, 1937, to the late Clyde Norman and Annie Cecil (Day) Hobbs in Anniston, Alabama, the oldest of three boys.

An avid basketball and softball player, Clyde would be inducted into Alabama's Softball Hall of Fame in 2012 for his pitching contributions.

In 1955, he married Rosa Ann Owen, with whom he had four children and celebrated more than 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2015. Clyde worked at General Electric for more than 30 years, managing human relations at facilities across the country until he retired as the head of HR for its plastics division -a role that took him and his family to Mt. Vernon, Indiana.

Clyde was an active member in the Mt. Vernon community as a member of the First United Methodist Church, Western Hills Country Club, and most recently as the president of the Solarbron residents' association.

A larger-than-life personality, Clyde relished good music, a good joke, and the love of his family, though he was forever disappointed in his efforts to convince any one of his six granddaughters to name a doll after him.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his firstborn daughter, Dani Marie, and his wife, Rosa.

Surviving him are daughters, Dianne Keck and Katherine "Kathy" (Henry) Bockelman; son, Clyde "Steve" (Sandy) Hobbs; his grandchildren, Meghan (Matthew) Thurlow, Emily Keck, Ashley Mair, Abby (Chad) Snedecker, Frehley (Colby) Wilson and Sadie (Andrew) Shoultz and their families; as well as his dear friend, Jenny Campbell.

A Celebration of Clyde's Life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 14, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, 601 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Pastor Christopher Millay officiating. A private burial to be held at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am, on Thursday at the church.
