Clyde Lamar Silver, 91, lifelong resident of Old Fort, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Friday, January 31, 2025.

Clyde was born and raised in Old Fort. He was born on August 7, 1933, to Clarence and Annie Early Silver, both of whom preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brother, David Silver, also of Old Fort.

After graduating from Old Fort High School in 1952, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in the South Pacific during the Korean Conflict as a gunnery mate on the USS Uhlmann, a Navy Destroyer. Clyde worked as a machinist for Keerfott Corporation in Black Mountain.

In 1972, Clyde met the love of his life, Terry King Silver, and married her in 1973. He and Terry created a wonderful life with their son, Lamar. It continued in 1975 when their daughter Beth was born. Their family continued to grow, and Clyde became the beloved Pop Pop to his eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He loved his family fiercely and taught them so much about life. But most importantly, he taught them about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He taught them to follow him with all their lives, and all their souls, and that is what has helped them in letting him go Home to be with His Savior.

Clyde was a charter member of Grace Community Church in Marion, NC. Even at 91, he remained an active part of the ministry of the church. Most recently, Clyde served multitudes of Hurricane Helene survivors’ fresh hot meals with NC Baptist Men on Mission Manna One in late September and October 2024.

Clyde believed in relationships with people. He believed that people never care how much you know until they know how much you care. He believed in making a difference in people’s lives. In the late sixties and seventies, he did that by coaching countless children in Old Fort and Black Mountain through the Little League Football and Baseball. Some of those went on to play in college and the NFL, they still talk about his influence on their lives.

But the people that he influenced the most were his wife of 53 years, Terry Silver, his son, Lamar (Beth) Silver of Old Fort, his daughter, Beth (Marc) Anderson of Mooresville, Kyle (Shannon) Silver of Banner Elk, Brenna (Austin) Stophel of Stanley, Anna Silver of Old Fort, Samantha Anderson, Evan Anderson, Hayden Silver-McLeod, Holden Silver-McLeod, Kinsley Anderson all of Mooresville, Wyatt and Layton Silver of Banner Elk and Aubree Stophel of Stanley. He is also survived by a special family friend, Elizabeth McLeod, of Charlotte.

There will be a memorial service for Clyde on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 1:00 pm with the family receiving friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Grace Community Church, Marion, North Carolina with Revs. Jerry Lewis and Tim Lolley officiating. His remains will be interred at the Western Carolina Veterans’ Cemetery with full military rights on Thursday at 10:00 a.m.
