Clyde Alfred Steddum, age 88 of Galveston, Texas passed away Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Meridian Retirement Community in Galveston. Memorial services will be held on 3:00pm Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home, Reverend Eric Hodge officiating. Inurnment will take place at Houston National Cemetery in Houston.
Clyde was born January 29, 1936 in Mount Calm, Hill County, Texas to Charles Alfred Steddum and Ella Fay Newman. He attended Ball High School in Galveston. Clyde enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and served honorably during the Korean War. After his military service, Clyde worked for Union Oil Company and then began a career with IBM Corporation in 1961.
While in Long Beach, California he met his wife Margaret Ann Ashie in 1955 and the couple were married on March 9, 1956. He worked as a manager for IBM Corporation for 30 years in Los Angeles, California; Raleigh, North Carolina; Somers, New York; New Orleans, Louisiana; Tucson, Arizona, and Rochester, Minnesota. After retiring from IBM Corporation he worked for the Bell Atlantic Corporation and then Gandalf Technologies moving to Manchester, England, United Kingdom and then to Sidney, Australia.
Clyde was always so proud of his children and made sure they had whatever they needed. He was a generous person and was always ready to answer a need. He enjoyed traveling with Margaret and his family and was always the best husband and father. He and Margaret were faithful members of First Baptist Church of Galveston. His kind spirit and willingness to share with others will be fondly remembered and missed forever. Clyde was able to connect with many relatives and friends and have a deep impact on their lives.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Margaret Ann Ashie Steddum; his parents Charlie Alfred Steddum and Ella Fay Newman, and a son Michael Alfred Steddum.
His survivors include his son Curtis Alan Steddum and wife Janet of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter Cheryl Ann Halbert of Globe, Arizonia; grandchildren Catherine Steddum and husband Russell Spitler; Christopher Steddum and wife Lauren; Charlotte Steddum Walker and husband Michael; Michael Halbert, Carleigh Halbert and Callysta Halbert; great grandchildren James Walker, Ava Walker, Vivienne Steddum, Margaret "Margo" Steddum, Auden Spitler, Darcey Spitler and Jack Spitler; and numerous other relatives and many friends.
