Margaret was born March 26, 1936, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada to Jack Ashie and Florence Ryan Ashie. She went to High School in Toronto at Danforth Collegiate and Technical School a school for the Arts in Toronto. After completing school in Toronto, she went to Long Beach California where she earned her associate degree in Art. While in Long Beach she would meet her husband in 1955 and the couple were married March 9, 1956. She worked as a draftsperson in Long Beach, New York, New Orleans and everywhere she and Clyde moved. Being born a Canadian she always looked forward to getting her US Citizenship and in 1976 with a strong desire to vote for Ronald Regan, she became a US Citizen. An artist at heart she loved to paint with watercolors. Her love of art continued with her throughout the years and brought much joy to her family and many friends. Margaret was always so proud of her children and made sure they had whatever they needed. She was a generous person and was always ready to answer a need. Margaret was an avid dancer and enjoyed teaching dancing. She enjoyed traveling with Clyde and her family and was always the best caregiver. She and Clyde were faithful members of First Baptist Church of Galveston. Her family would say that she was a kind soul, putting up with Clyde for 68 years, for which they were very grateful. Her kind spirit and willingness to share with others will be fondly remembered and missed forever.
Preceded in death by her parents, a son Michael Steddum, and a brother Bud Ashie; survivors include her husband of 68 years Clyde Alfred Steddum of Galveston; daughter Cheryl Ann Halbert of Globe, Arizonia; son Curtis Alan Steddum and wife Janet of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren Catherine Steddum and Husband Russell Spitler, Christopher Steddum and wife Lauren, Charlotte Steddum Walker and husband Michael, Michael Halbert, Carleigh Halbert and Callysta Halbert; great grandchildren James Walker, Vivienne Steddum, Margaret "Margo" Steddum, Auden Spitler, Darcey Spitler and Jack Spitler; numerous other relatives and many friends.
