Clyde Thornton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by House of Law, Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Penn Hills on May 20, 2024.
Clyde Thornton (Pops) 77, passed away unexpectedly on May 16, 2024, in Pittsburgh, PA. Born on August 8, 1946, in Aliquippa, PA, to Genevia Pinkney and Walter Dozier Thornton. Clyde spent his formative years at Aliquippa, excelling academically and athletically at Aliquippa High School where he distinguished himself as a standout football player.
Continuing his education, he pursued studies at Coffeyville Community College and Emporia State University in Kansas. In 1972, at Emporia State University, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and was the ship captain named P.A. of the Epsilon Phi Chapter. He was very proud to represent his prestigious fraternity; often draped in Que paraphernalia.
Clyde's professional journey included a successful tenure at Duquesne Light, culminating in his retirement as a Property Analyst, followed by his stewardship of the family business, Jessie's Cafe.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Genevia Pinkney, father, Walter Dozier Thornton, brothers; Walter Dozier Thornton Jr., Wayne Lee Thornton, sister; Mildred Miller and grandmother, Jessie Pinkney.
Beyond his role as a cherished family member and friend, Clyde was a pillar within his community. His sudden absence leaves a void that resonates deeply with all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Evelyn Thornton, six daughters; Karin Hayes, Stacey (Herman) Colbert, Cloteal (Anthony) Jackson, Corey Ralph, Tamica (Ronnie) Mickle, and Tere'a Thornton and one son, D'Andre (Kassandra) Hunter. Additionally, he leaves behind sisters Jessi (Herbie) Banks and Carol Thomas, 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Clyde's impact resonates through the memories he created and the lives he touched. May he find eternal peace, and be remembered fondly by all who were touched by his presence.

My sincere prayers and condolences to the family . I remember Clyde, first as the doorman at Squakers club, in downtown Pittsburgh, back in the late 79's, early 80's. Then later on while working at Duquesne Light Co., I met him again. Clyde was always a laid back, easy going brother. He will be missed.
