Cmiljka ("Millie") Sreckovic, age 87, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, in
South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was born on February 7, 1938, in Serbia, the cherished eldest child of the late Dragoljub and Milunka Markovic. She was just a young little girl when WWII entered her birthplace. As her father was eventually imprisoned in a war camp in Germany, her mother was left behind with two small children to raise in very dire conditions. They all worked hard together to survive all the hardships they endured. She would eventually go on to marry her husband Milos and they welcomed three children together. In 1971, Cmiljka began an adventure that would forever change her life. She immigrated to America with her husband and children to be reunited with her father after 30 years apart. She often spoke of her love for America and all the opportunities she found in this wonderful land, especially as she became an American citizen. Cmiljka would go on to live a long and wonderful life enjoying her family and the life she had worked so hard to build for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cmiljka was a gift to everyone who knew her. She was patient, kind and loving and she was always the first to offer help when needed. Whether someone needed a job or another resource, she was the first to jump in to do whatever she could to help. There have been many stories of those who remember her loving and giving ways. Her family valued her as a true gift and will always remember her with deep love and affection as putting her family first always.
There was nothing Cmiljka couldn't do. From being an amazing cook and baker to becoming a wonderful seamstress. She enjoyed every opportunity to get together with family and would make the most amazing dishes that everyone still craves today. She retired from Eder Flag where she was a fabulous seamstress sewing American flags. She was a beloved co-worker to many and she felt very proud of her work as she had a great love for this country.
What she will be remembered most for and what she will be missed most for is the pure love she showed her family every day of her life. The love she felt just always exuded from her and her family appreciates the gift that she gave of herself. She was very grateful for her family and sacrificed so much of herself for the health and wellbeing of her family. But the truth is, her family is the one who is grateful for her. Her family understands and greatly appreciates the love she gave and the sacrifices she made to give her family a better life. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have had so many opportunities because of her hard work and diligence in raising and nurturing her family.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, Milos Sreckovic, and her beloved son-in-law, Tom Ljujic. She is survived by her loving sons Miro (Donna) Sreckovic and Vern (Cheryl) Sreckovic and her devoted daughter Gordana (the late Tom) Ljujic. She was the treasured Baba to her grandchildren, Stevan (Miguel Tolentino) Sreckovic, Nicholas (Melissa) Sreckovic, Jordan (Shannon) Sreckovic, Kristina (RJ) Hugasian, Deanna (Blanca) Ljujic-Rodriguez, Melissa (Ben Hurst) Ljujic, Nicole Sreckovic, and Michael Sreckovic. She was the treasured great-grandmother to Nadija, Neven, Owen, Amelia, Eleanora, Ivie, Luka and soon-to-be baby Sreckovic. She is also survived by her dear brother Milutin Markovic and his children and grandchildren.
Cmiljka's beautiful smile and warm spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her dearly. Forever in our hearts. Our lives were better because of you. Private family services were held.
